From what I saw in the stream, it is possible for factions to hijack your empire, as what happened in the Starfish Empire.

I'm trying to figure out, how would you prevent it from happening?

Say for example, you're a spiritualist/xenophile/militarist, how would you keep materialist, xenophobe, and pacifist factions from taking over?

If possible, can you back your ruler in an oligarchic election in order to keep them from taking over?

I would have thought that an autocratic government (like in the Starfish Empire) would be able to embrace/suppress factions more often than democratic governments, but I'm not sure that's the case anymore after watching the stream.

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

The only way your governing ethics change is through embracing and possibly though we are not sure through rebellion and cknoor accidentally embraced the faction which changes his ethics (he just clicked the wrong button) they didnt hijack.

AH! So he just had a Homer Simpson moment! Lol! Well, that's good. I was worried there for a moment. Phew! That's a relief. Now, I don't have to worry about factions that I don't like taking over my government!

Not so fast, they could still rebel and cause a heck of alot more problems then that through unrest.

That's alright. I actually hope they do! I have never experienced a rebellion since the first day I started playing Stellaris! So, I'm actually glad that they have fixed the rebellion system. I was really annoyed that I didn't even get a Pretender Civil War! I was so disappointed in that. Basically, I look forward to a little bit of chaos in my empire.
