Here is whats frustrating.

Some people want to play the game casually, or with a good ability to win. Like an easy mode, not like the one already in the game. They want to enjoy the game with a modest sense of difficulty. Someone like myself who has played alot of Total war games, enjoys that.
Sure factions does work, but its so overbearingly difficult, illogical, and annoying for someone like myself who enjoyed the original plot system way more.

And then you have the players who are in love with it, the hard core players who love losing or love playing with the difficulty settings through the roof. The players who are convinced that any patch that makes the game more difficult is great and fun.

There are difficulty options.

Aaaaand, this isn't a total war game. Sorry. It is slightly more than it. If you don't like it, greener pastures etc.

Didnt you read what I said? I said an easy mode not like in the game. And dont tell be, "Its not a total war game". Thats a stupid response that people use here all the time. I simply said Ive played Total war games, so Im used to a sense that I can at least play the game with a sensible difficulty scale. This patch throws in a new scale of difficulty that I cannot adjust unless through modding.

Look, I love total war. Rome total war is one of my most favorite games of all time.

However, as you clearly mention, there IS modding here! Taking out factions entirely is probably a matter of just deleting a couple of files. There is no reason to complain for a mechanic that, for all intends and purposes, is completely optional.

I always feel bad for modding something out of game. I have the feeling that Im cheating or the feeling that the developers didnt do a good job if mods are required to play. For example, I can only play Victoria II with mods because the vanilla version is terrible so I play Pop Demand Mod.

There is no "cheating". It is a single player game. A game you play for your own enjoyment. Don't like factions? Take them out. Feel offended by "suicide" option? Do the same! Mods are not here just to "improve" the game (like PDM clearly does), but also to change it to suit your needs.

Don't be afraid to mod you game. It is a good thing and part of the fun.

Are you educating your own heirs? It is extremely easy to get really good characters. Especially since 1.07 which improves the chances of passing genius and strong traits. I think I've had a different genius ruler for over 300 years. I do play elective as well so that improves my chances to have a better ruler.

But I try to educate most of my male dynasty members I'll even educate my daughters if their are no males to educate at the time.

As Sultan of Sicily I invaded Greece and won (destroyed ERE as well).

A few years later I had a massive independence war on my hands. The rebels also got a free 25,000 troops.

I was on the brink of defeat when I assassinated the faction leader and the war immediately ended inconclusively.

I am a casual gamer......I never play any Paradox game modded only Vanilla and only on Normal.Sometimes I win sometimes I lose......often get frustrated by not quite understanding game mechanics.(Vicky II)Etc.

I find CK2 relatively easy to understand and play.....if you follow simple rules.Educate your children yourself.NEVER give land to an Ambitious person.(unless its you or your heir)

Factions are easy to control if you manage your vassals correctly.Especially controlling their Desmesne sizes, if possible every vassal only having 1 holding.

They'll create Factions but will never do anything like most plots.(You only have to start worrying when their military power gets over 75%)

I've had two independence factions in a row trigger when they got to 26-30%, so it can easily happen more often. And one was with a genius emperor with a ton of positive traits who has been on the throne for a couple decades. 80 is just too high of a threshhold to get vassal opinion to in order to avoid an independence war becoming a regular occurance.

I find it easier to control factions now than controlling rebellions before the patch.

I now know how to perfectly rule my realm, and haven't had a faction formed that was a threat for many many years.

I really don't know what the fuss is about, i think factions are underpowered.

Look, I admit that I'm a bit of a political micromanager. But I'm not fantastic at the game or anything, and my skills at war in this game probably leaves a bit to be desired (or a lot), but if you're not able to get 90% of major vassals in your kingdom/empire over 30 opinion in the reign of a single King (even a poor one) I would suggest seriously investigating some strategies. I appreciate that most people aren't going to get the same success that I get in politics (60+ on 90% of vassals after 5 years of ruling with any given king) because it's just not their thing, but to get pretty well everyone to be at least marginally positive should be achievable with a modicum of effort, and it makes the game run sooo much smoother.

In fact, if you message me with some details I can even give you some pointers. :)

I've an idea how to nerf factions a bit:first- one character can join one faction. So one disgruntled character won't be able to back every faction in realm. Also, factions should work only in borders of their own realm- like laws. So independence will cause maximally one kingdom in empire to revolt. Unless we've kings as vassals.
And last thing- to back someones claim to throne, backed person must agree- no more counts backing my brother-king to throne.

I've yet to have any major issues with factions. I think I've had a couple rebellions in a century, but nothing I couldn't handle (though one I did need to call in an ally, as it came while my levies were absolutely decimated). I bribe, pass out honorary titles, and imprison as needed. Though it does help I vassalized the Coptic Pope... free excommunications across the realm makes imprisoning super easy.

I found I deal with fuctions 2 ways. Way one - weeeker them or provoke them when I am ready. Becaus enow all vassals of faction are arested if you won, it cound be exptrimessly profitable. Ransom some, revoke titles form others and them runsom them. In short, just be ready.

I also find the factions too overpowered, at least in my late game. Suddenly, a faction gathers +50.000 troops just in a single province of my empire and I think "WTF! How did they manage to do what I can't even do myself when I'm controlling all the empire?" First, I avoided the problem via assassination of the leader and the faction disappeared in most cases, what I find a bit gamey.

I can't stand that the faction problem happens in my game for everything: Lower Crown Authority to Medium, change succession law from Primogeniture to another, have another family member as the new Emperor, etc. And what I hate most on how it's implemented is the issue with the independence of a count or duke because, in any case, it becomes as half of the empire revolting and then I see the revolters and some of them even had high relationship with me! Not to mention as somebody else said: Does it make sense for so many vassals to back up another vassal that does not even belong to the same kingdom or culture?? For now, at least in my game, I find the factions just like a Zerg invasion from within that happens so frequently, for almost any reason and with not much logic IMHO (why would all those vassals ally if they don't share anything in common?).

+1. I have a nice ruler (and my next ruler will be even better) and I don't see the point on relationships with the new faction system...

The one thing I don't understand is the decision to have +80 relations the threshold for not joining a faction, seriously? you're telling me that I have to have almost perfect relations with all my vassals or they will start banding together to overthrow me? The threshold should be 0 or +20 something around that range, I would expect people who think nothing of me or negatively of me to perhaps be inclined to join a faction to get rid of me, but when I'm generally well liked by most of my vassals and yet they are still joining together to overthrow me there's something seriously wrong with that, I find it laughable how this was deemed a good idea. What once was my favourite game has now been shelved, ironically because I paid money to buy a DLC, is there anyway to get a refund on this DLC or at the very least know where the settings are so I can change this myself?
