Hey,

Been playing Crusader Kings 2 for a while now and I have come across something a bit more than mildly annoying.

I am currently playing as the emperor of Britannia spanning across all of Great Britain, Brittany, France, Aquitaine, Aragon, Hungry, Poland and into Russia.

There are no other Kingdoms that have been created other than my own (Ireland) and obviously I am the only Empire holder. The rest are dukes.

Most of the Duchies are Arch-Bishoprics and are Catholic and Irish (as am I).

At the moment the lowest opinion of me by one of these vassals is about 33. However I currently have a massive independent faction issue. These very happy vassals (a few are at 100 opinion) keep forming this faction. Why is this happening and how can I stop it? Is the only way to use your spymaster to scheme?

Thanks

Vassals are very likely to join independence factions if they are neither your culture nor part of your de jure territory. You should work on educating vassal's heirs with a tutor of your culture (heck, tutor them yourself, if you have no heirs waiting to be educated!), because there is a good chance the children's culture will flip. Once a ruler is of a certain culture, he'll try to keep his heirs the same culture. As a side effect, if the feudal chain (count, duke, and king, barons or emperors don't matter, I think) is your culture, the provinces themselves might change culture eventually.

Ensure you have every county of every de jure duchy you control. The duchies ought to start drifting to your primary kingdom title, if you don't also own the duchy's current de jure kingdom title. (Kingdoms drifting into empires is majorly bugged at the moment.)

hmm that's weird. I formed the Empire of Britannia and is dealing with factions as well, but mostly the independence ones are from dukes with different cultures, while lower crown and claim titles for someone are any kind of dukes really no matter the relationship with you.

Factions are rather broken, sadly. When kings with 100 opinion on you always join every manner of faction to make your life more miserable, I doubt opinion have any play in it, it may be just scripted or random decision.

They are not in my de Jure territory but should it matter? Surely that isn't the only reason why they have joined the faction. I now have upwards of 75 relations with pretty much all of them, I haven't completed any tyrant acts and it is still a race to get my spymaster to them in turn to stop them getting above 33% and hence a possibility of revolt.

You can cave to their demands and they will become independent. You will then get claims on all their lands so you can attack them right away and take them all back, one by one. This effectively allows you to kick them out and replace them with new vassals.

When dealing with independence wars I prefer to crush them then when they are imprisoned revoke their titles and recreate them as archbishoprics with Irish catholic lords. Easier in the long run haha

It would seem that not being De Jure was the reason. I created every single kingdom to see if that was the reason and now only vassals with cultures other than Irish are appearing. It therefore seem that the reason the independence faction is created is either not being de jure or not being of the same culture.

The fact that relations has no or very little effect on this, to me, reeks of being broken but still WAD

one of the failings of this game is that at first they advertised the opinion rating as the ultimate indicator of how a character behaves towards your character but since the first days and through the patches opinion has mattered less and less...any one will take negative action towards your character if they have certain motives and despite having a high positive opinion
