I polished my ruler's intrigue, overcame the competition, and got him the spymaster appointment. I used this power to kidnap my liege and demand independence. He didn't respect this demand despite his position entrenched in a losing war with another rebellion to which I'd declared neutrality. I could have won that conflict in the field, but I'd already won it in the cloakroom. I used my liege's captivity to enforce my demand for immediate independence. Unfortunately it came wrapped with a bow of truce.
Now I can't exploit my liege's neglect of political affairs because it would cost half my prestige, prestige that I need to keep my realm together; intriguing from a weak starting position makes enemies.
My question is this: given the opacity of affairs of state, why should my ne'er do well bum of a liege have the right to public opinion's forgiveness when he fails the only task required in exchange for his infinite privilege, to cohere the realm? After all, he chose war.
