I polished my ruler's intrigue, overcame the competition, and got him the spymaster appointment. I used this power to kidnap my liege and demand independence. He didn't respect this demand despite his position entrenched in a losing war with another rebellion to which I'd declared neutrality. I could have won that conflict in the field, but I'd already won it in the cloakroom. I used my liege's captivity to enforce my demand for immediate independence. Unfortunately it came wrapped with a bow of truce.
Now I can't exploit my liege's neglect of political affairs because it would cost half my prestige, prestige that I need to keep my realm together; intriguing from a weak starting position makes enemies.
My question is this: given the opacity of affairs of state, why should my ne'er do well bum of a liege have the right to public opinion's forgiveness when he fails the only task required in exchange for his infinite privilege, to cohere the realm? After all, he chose war.

I'm really not sure what you're asking here. Are you confused about why there would be a truce with your liege after winning a rebellion?

More than anything I'm suggesting that a bloodless secession declared successfully as a fait accompli should be more flexible than it is. For instance the consequent term I wished to pursue was reclaiming territory from my liege that was a de jure part of my title. He was in my dungeon, running a debt, and losing a separate secession war. The idea that norms of the chaotic subcontinent would have prevented me from exacting any terms, let alone those within my normative rights, removed me from the fiction a bit.

Really this is part of my campaign to encourage content that explores the nebulous, opaque aspects of open acts of state: of prestige and causes. I want play opened to intensive exploration of the causes and limits of state declarations and treaties the way that conclave expanded domestic politics.

I think that makes sense. Basically AI should consider the fact if it is imprisoned by the demander or not. If so then they will always agree HOWEVER I think this should also come with the demander having to release the captive.

Don't know if it is possible to check that though.

What you want should be taken up with Paradox, not with us, because all of that is so deeply engrained in hard code that we wouldn't even know how to touch with the tools that we have. To be frank though, the kind of flexibility you're asking for isn't going to be well-represented in any game, but if it makes you feel better, accept it as a challenge to make up for other parts of this game that are abstracted so as to make your life much easier and the game actually enjoyable.

@caocao268 I understand why HIP isn't the ideal place for that, but the premise of my gameplay experience was the kidnap plot. So here I am prodding on mission creep. If you give a mouse advanced diplomacy actions...

Someone else might know better, but I think you vastly overestimate exactly how flexible we can/want to be with diplo options. Less is more, especially because there's not really a way to organize them yet (for example, like the Sims and their expanding menus), and the kind of complexity you're describing with regard to reasoning and such is something that is fairly low on the priority list at the moment.

I do appreciate your taking the time to outline your thoughts though, we appreciate the feedback and suggestions.
