First of all, this is my first attempt into making an AAR, anything that was tried to be produced beyond this point in time was the hand of a friend of mine. He managed to do this because I logged on his computer one day and accidentally checked the log in forever box thingy. Second, this is going to be an alternative-history AAR since going historical will be boring and will most likely make me end up in economic misery.

Some sort of story telling might be present, but don't count on it. I shall allow myself to cheat ,twice only, so I can get a few bonuses and get rid of some events that will screw me up. With that said, enjoy. And keep in mind one thing: WIF.

Settings:
-Ireland, The World in Flames Scenario
-Medium/Medium
-HOI 2 DD/ARM+WIF Platinum

Description:
The game is simply going to be a "what if?" scenario? What if De Valera's government was unpopular with the population and was only digging the state deeper and deeper into Economic misery and another famine? I smell revolution.

Strenghts:
-I am allowing me to cheat so I can simulate some sort of overthrow, but only twice.
-A sea separates me from the UK. Thank Jebbus.
Weakness:
-Low MP and growth rate (0.03 per day or so)
-Weak IC base, even if I can get Northern Ireland back.
-WIF......Just WIF. Everything about this mod is a downside with such a minor :D
-Crappy leaders
-I am abstaining myself from gamey tactics.

Enjoy

Dublin, Ireland 1936. Irish Parliamentary Building

"Such a day cannot get any worse........" De Valera spoke in a low pitch tone, watching with awe what has become of his country. His failed reforms in the last years have brought Ireland in a state of misery, making it only a shadow of it's former self. He knew the risk of his actions, yet he ignored them blindly, believing that nothing could go wrong. Now he pays for his childish mistake. Raising up from his chair, he slowly made his way to the glass wall, watching the streets with a slight grin on his face.

Since last December, the whole country was uneasy and people started to protest De Valera's form of government. First, it was nothing big. Just peasants complaining yet as time passed, more and more people began to question their leader, even members of the parliament. He was in a precarious position ever since, only a miracle managing to save him up until now yet his times seemed to have passed. His last line of defense were 30 or so police officers, still loyal to De Valera since they flourished through corruption, yet they couldn't hold the angry mob back.

When one of the cop's lost his grip, the whole human wall broke and they were overrun, a few remaining to make sure they shall not rise again while the rest continued on to the front door, W.T Cosgrave leading them forward. "So this is where I shall meet my end huh? In a slightly amused tone, he chuckled, letting out a sigh and turning his head around once he heard a knock on the door. The rebels where still trying to break through the main door so he wasn't worrying yet. Slowly entered M.J Costello, accompanied by a few bodyguards while De Valera's where lying on the floor unconscious.

"It's over Eamon, surrender now and I shall make sure that you shall be allowed a quick death." Even though a supporter of De Valera, Costello was well aware that sticking up for him would only get him killed sooner or latter as well. He didn't wished for such a fate and was promised freedom and the right to keep his position in the military if he would abandon De Valera and join him, even though he will lose his position in the parliament.

"Et tu Costello? I should have thought that you were going to save your own skin one way or another. Very well, I don't blame you. But.....tell me one thing my friend, what did I do wrong? He spoke in a friendly tone, turning around to face Costello and the other two while at the same time the mob managed to penetrate the parliamentary. You succumbed to the desire of power and have been corrupted by it. You had a promising future Eamon, yet you throw it out the window when you tried to improve your life while neglecting the population. In the end, you only became another iron fisted, power mongrel. In my oppinnion, you deserve your faith. "Heh, we don't know to appreciate something until we lost it. Sigh.....very well. I accept my destiny." De Valera was at peace with himself and accepted his faith. In the next following minutes, De Valera was assasinnated and W.T Cosgrave proclaimed himself as HOG, leaving his associate Frank Fahy to occupy the position of President, even though his role was pure decorative.

A narrative Irish AAR ? Jaysus-Christ onna wooden leg, lemme go grab the beer and watch the drama unfold !

Thanks :D

It's true WIF it's a bit difficult, but now, you seem to search the difficulty actively. Good luck!

A little extra difficulty to spice it up never killed anybody xD

I always wondered why Fernando put Ireland as one of the Basic 8 countries in WiF.

Neither do I know why in Vanilla. Although I have to say, it's a very interesting nation to play in WIF.

In the peacetime years, I might do it since there's not much to write about with Ireland, 'cept espionage and trying to get first base with Hitler.

All of which is wonderful! I'd love to see if you tackle the Oirish lads in the SCW. As well as your powerful neighbour over the sea.

:D Was to lazy to say who talked every single time and just used color, but I can do without.

Le Jones: My chances of getting involved in the SCW are pretty slim. Ireland starts with only 1 understrength Infantry divisions, 18 no less, and on transport vessel. Plus, SWC usually ends around early '37 in WIF.

Dublin, Ireland 1936. January the second

610x.jpg

Former Irish Parliamentary building

" After only a mere ten hours after the exchange of power in Ireland, our new Head of Government already escaped several assassination attacks and, along with his cabinet, managed to avoid a death trap ready to be set off. We received several details of the incident from our sources, and apparently a few loyalist to Eamon Da Valera managed to drop an artillery barrage on the parliamentary building a few minutes ago, the terrorist being captured shortly after trying to reload for a second round. It is beli....." Suddenly, there was silence, Costello turning off the radio and laid down on a wooden chair.

"We are not as loved as we first believed William. If this continues, we might experience a second Civil War, and if that happens the people will lose all their fate in us. Da Valera managed to stop any uprising so fa......." "I know very well that Eamon managed to stop a second civil war in '32, thanks for rubbing salt on the wound Costello."

Letting out a sigh and placing his hand on his forehead, Cosgrave tried to calm down and think straight. He believed that the only ones that would of done this would of been either officers still loyal to Eamon or ex-ministers. Yet, in his current state, he couldn't do much about it himself, and the country needed to be reorganized first.

"What is our plans now?" The silence was braked off by Frank McDermott, minister of armament and one of the reasons the cabinet was still alive. He used to bribe a few officers back in the day of Da Valera to bring him reports on the troops, trying to figure out if Eamon would lose his mind further, and plunge the country into a war with the British for North Ireland. "Right now Frank, we rebuild the country from square one. I want everybody to bring me reports of whatever political, economical and military operation Eamon did before New Year."

"Military, he didn't do anything that could ruin us for a period of time, yet economically, he was preparing to plunge us into a war. I fear that if we didn't intervened yesterday, the world might not be as peaceful as it is right now." "I need proof first Eoin. Anything that could of proved that Eamon was preparing to send us into war could raise our prestige as saviors." "Very well. I managed to save some documents from before the bombing. It's not much, but it could prove useful." Picking up a suitcase that was leaning on his chair, Eoin Macneill took out a few pieces of paper, handing them over to William. He only needed a few glances to figure out that Eamon wasn't sane in the head anymore.

DumbEamon.jpg

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.....

William needed only the rearmament program to make him sick to the stomach. Most of this units been in training for a few months at least and he continuously send letters of preparations to his officers, warning about a second British-Irish war. Eamon has been neglecting his people and was preparing to bring Ireland back into British domination.Even though every one of his bones where shivering, he still grinned joyfully. This was exactly what he needed to calm down the people and improve relantionship with Britain and possibly, just possibly, receive Northern Ireland as a sign of friendship.

"Pack your bags gentleman, we move out to a temporary base until we get the Parliamentary building repaired and I shall invoke a conference with the British. Eamon just might of helped us secure power much easily.

Dublin, Ireland. May 1st, 1936. Rebuild Irish Parliamentary Building

William sat low in his chair, his body leaning under his desk and only his head being seen from the door to the rest of the building. He slightly smiled, being happy of his progress in only half a year as the new ruler of Ireland. He sat in his office quietly, contemplating what he did so far. On the 7th of February the population was subdued, mostly thanks to Eamonn Broy, his cheif of security. He gave the people hope that there shall definitely be no other war in which brother would kill brother, and since he has been appointed in that position, the crime level in Dublin and Cork specifically dropped by 20 percent.

Yet, not all went all unfortunately. His attempts at getting friendly with the British Government on the 10th of January failed miserably. Ever since they lost Da Valera, they have been cooled towards William, knowing very well he is not going to sell his country to the crown, and that he will fight till the end for it. Even though small, going at war with them will only result in the Irish losing all their faith in Britain and will result in countless rebellions, not to mention tension back on mainland Europe. Yet, not all was lost. After the meting was over with, Constantin von Neurath, foreign minister of Germany, was sent on behalf of Hitler to establish diplomatic and economic relationship with the new government.

For William, this was a miracle, since with the sealing of the contract, Ireland received a trade deal for their supplies in exchange for energy reserves to keep it's factories working.

FirstTradeJan2sd.jpg
Cross your fingers....

wOOt.jpg

wOOt!

With the newly acquired energy reserves, the Irish industry was able to pick up and start producing for the nation's Self-Defense. Even though William wished at first to keep the Irish well feed and raise the standard of living to the max, the states national security was first. He had a felling that something will go wrong sooner or later with the British and he wished to be prepared.

The last event he was aware of was the death of George the V, which he gave his condolences to the royal family and assisted at the coronation of Edward the VIII. The rest, he was about to find out from the report received from his ministers. Raising from the leaning position and getting closer to the desk, he leaned the upper body over the file and opened it, praying for the best. His eyes first set gaze upon Broy's report. He mentioned that on January the 2sd, a few research teams agreed to work for the new Government, one of them being Goulding Chemicals, assigned to work on better machine tool's to increase the productivity of the factories.

He let Broy handle this after the bombing, since diplomatic trips back and forwards were eating all of his time and nerves. From his report, they should be finished in a few weeks from now.

FirstResearch.jpg

Why are all tech teams level 4?

Broy ended his report with the fact that all of Williams weaponry and factories are on the assembly line from the moment he ordered them and how their coming along and the countries stockpile output.

Better then nothing....

The next one was from Frank Aiken, and if William didn't knew him better, he would think he standing in a corner crying that he doesn't get's to do any of the stuff that happened. The US intelligence targeted both the Germans and the Soviets, the last being just pure insanity. In Germany, they managed to disrupt the production of one of their U-boats, the other one he couldn't read. He was on the floor laughing from the American stupidity. Yet, when he managed to recollect himself, he went on reading it. The only other things Aiken was aware of were some coups happening in Central America and Japan.

LOLApril2sd.jpg

Dumb Yankes.........

The rest, were unimportant except for the fact that the Siegfried line was re-occupied by military forces and the Germans were no longer bound to the Locarno treaty, or so they declared. Letting out a sigh, William was happy with his progress so far and tried to hold himself from laughing so hard that even Hitler would hear him.
