If you host the multiplayer session, your friend can play with your Extreme Edition DLC without owning them.

If he hosts the game, I think you'll have to disable them in the launcher.

To my understanding from CK2 thats wrong:

If you host the multiplayer session, your friend can play with your Extreme Edition DLC without owning them.

If he hosts the game, I think you'll have to disable them in the launcher.

If he hosts the game, he won't be able to access the contents of your DLC, but you can, as stated before the games have the same version and checksum, but one can access the extra content, the other one not. It makes no matter which DLCs you activate just to connect to someone else, but it matters in what content you can use.

For example now someone starts a CK2 game that he received by preordering EUIV. So he has no DLC at all. Meaning he can only play Catholic and Orthodox rulers. If he hosts a Multiplayersession with someone who has all DLC, this one can play muslim or pagan, whereas the hoster is restricted. But they have the same version of the game.
This will work the same in EUIV (they'd be quite nasty if this wouldn't work like that :D )
