Given everything we know about HOI4 so far, how possible would it be to develop something like Qweyt's Extended Timeline mod for EU4, but for HOI4? I know that some of the biggest issues would be modeling cultures, religion, forts/castles, vassalization, paths to diplo-annexing countries (vassalization, royal marriages/personal unions), HRE mechanics, exploration mechanics, and colonization mechanics, and unless Paradox can address these issues with DLC then how could modders address these issues?

I could personally imagine addressing colonial mechanics by representing uncolonized areas with one or more gigantic country tags. Players could colonize these "unsettled territories" by recruiting "colonists", which could actually be specialized divisions that players could recruit and then send into uncolonized provinces. The issue that i can see with this, however, is that players would have to be "at war" with the territories to be able to send these divisions.

Well, these are at least my ideas for how to address colonization, anyway. But if anyone has anything to add to this idea, like additional comments, concerns, and ideas, feel free to share!

Just wondering why modding HOI4, when we already have this excellent mod for EU4? To make it work for timespan of thousands of years, you would have to make wars similar as in EU4 otherwise you would just have gigantic neverending war until one faction dominates whole world...

I would like an extended timeline mod, but not one that branches all the way to 2 AD.

Maybe a mod that branches from the Franco-Prussian war or 1900 to 2000. But a HOI4 mod from the Roman Empire would be absolutely awful.

HoI4 wouldn't support anything before the Second Industrial Revolution well. A 1871-2016 mod would work (I'd be happy with a 1914-1991)

The "WW1 and interbellum" mod is about the best you can get with a very complex WW2 game. I believe you start in 1910 and go on until you see fit as quitting. That's the best you are going to get at the moment.
