If they add more war goals, events and diplomacy it would be more to do after scenario end. the scenarios is short. i would like to play in peace time to and build up the nation more and planning future attacks. And not constantly be at war. so a cold war dlc would add more of that

Nay.
As it was in HoI3 you had won or lost the war by 1943 at the latest.
All else was mopping up.
So if the principles stay the same their is no point in extending the time line:
Nothing new comes of it.

I for one hope that this is fixed: it's basically a product of the game mechanics that have been used since HOI1 that basically encourage you to go all-out, all the time.

I could only see a WW1 DLC working if it had its own end date, something like 1920, where it was entirely separate from the WW2 campaign. This would allow for the different kind of warfare that was WW1 and would mean that the devs wouldn't have to create a whole system for the interwar period (like disarnment, naval treaties, the depression, rise of facism, etc.).

Again, that's assuming that the war started with Poland in 1939, which didn't have to be. I have seen several times on this forum about people wanting there to be significantly less historical railroading, rather have it be more dynamic. Would it not be even more immersive and have the replayability value vastly increase, if WWII could start with the Allied Powers trying to stop the German Re-militarization of the Rhineland? Or for that matter, have them oppose the Anschluss of Austria, or better yet, a WWII started over the Sudetenland. Even for that matter, it doesn't have to start in Europe at all! A Second World War that started with the Second Sino-Japanese War sounds amazing;)

Extended timelines are not for DLC. You need a full-fledged expansion for that.
I would like to see a Total War like standalone expansion at 2/3 full price. Like Rome2's Attila or Empire's Napoleon. That standalone expansion would work on a polished HoI4 engine and cover the cold war. After all, the "East vs. West" project garnered a lot of buzz. The cold war topic is "hot" and extensive enough to warrant a full-fleged expansion package.

A small timeline extension to give "operation unthinkable" , or its soviet equivalent would work well. But trying to simulate the cold war with a game designed to simulate "Hot" wars isn't a good Idea. It just doesn't have the complex diplomacy needed to simulate the cold war.

A timeline extension to give a 1933 start would be great for playing as a minor but would be overpowered for a human major.

Extended timelines are not for DLC.

The Old Gods is probably the best DLC ever made for a Paradox game. It extended the timeline of CK2 by 300 years or so.

Agreed that the CW cannot be covered in a war game, but that Doomsday scenario is eminently doable.

Out of curiosity, what would be so great about a '33 start for minors?

Since pretty much nothing is acheivable as a minor with the additional 3 years that wouldn't be there with a '36 start, not unless this is destined to be a game where Albanian world conquest is possible, I don't see the attraction.

1933 - 1953 would be perfect for me, from Hitler's arrival to power to the end of the Korea War. I would really enjoy a "Hot War" DLC starting somewhere between 49 and 56, where you could fight in a scenario between Nato and the SU. Better still : a later end date would allow, once the main war is over, to prepare for the final showdown with the remaining powers.

As others have stated, extending the timeline so Germany could start the war somewhere between 1943-1945 when Hitler thought Germany would be ready, would be really nice. Also, leaving enough time after Germany is defeated for the Allies to potentially go to war with the Soviets. And I've personally always thought the Korean War should have been included in HoI3 as it was in HoI2, so extending the game to 1956 or so to give it a few extra years in case it lasts longer would be ideal. There were other conflicts that took place shortly after WW2 that should be included as well.

The First Indochina War, the Greek Civil War, the Indo-Pakistani War, the Arab-Israeli War, and other smaller conflicts like the Indonesian National Revolution, the Malayan Emergency, the Mau Mau Uprising. There was a surprising amount of small conflicts after WW2, with the decolonization leaving a lot of unstable or unpopular governments and communism trying to take hold where it could.

I really hope HOI IV will provide the platform for many expansions extending the timeline and overall content to the Cold War. I would love to see the post war setup being shaped by the actual outcome of WWII in each playthrough.

Do you think this would work out? Do you think this is utter nonsense and this game should focus on WWII only? What would you like to see as the game is developed further after release?

HoI's brand is already WWII only. If somebody wants an extended timeline, a mod is better suited for that.

Besides, Paradox's last venture into the cold-war theme ..... didn't bode so well.

I would definitively like an expansion of the time line in any direction. A short timeline extension would provide more time to plan your war and more flexibility (war start date later then 1939). A larger timeline extension to include ww1 and ww3 up to the point where guerrilla warfare became potent (Afghanistan/Vietnam mechanics maybe too far off), is very interesting, but would need that the game mechanics get enriched for peacetime play too (like more research option, economic/production option, diplomacy etc.) Also the difficult point would be to go away form the total war concept and have events ready that rearrange the political situation after the war (ww1/ww2) finished, to allow the game continue in an interesting/challenging situation.

As that means lots of work, especially for the longer time expansion (1933 to 1970's or 1910 to 1970 whatever, vicII in my opinion isn't representing the ww1 era in a good manner) the price would be closer to a full game then a DLC and i would be willing to pay that

I'd like for it to eventually be World War I up until the Malayan Emergency or something.
There's no real reason for people to NOT want a timeline extension. There's nothing stopping people from just starting from the 1939 start date.

And we're bound to get a timeline extension in some form anyway. With Paradox's new DLC policy, the only way to release as much DLC as they do, without extending the timeline, would be to purposely hold back a lot of important features from the base WWII scenario.

WW1 DLC. Not as a timeline extension necessarily, but just as an additional start-date wit appropriate techs etc. for the 1914-1918 period.

I too would like WW1 included however I see a problem. Players will fight the first world war till they totally annihilate the enemy and therefore making a second war pointless. The game would need to have a good peace process were you can get away slightly if you are defeated, making it possible to recover and fight another war in twenty years. If it can't do that, new enemies must be found from somewhere. Maybe UK and it's empire going on a rampage and Germany is part of the allies to try and stop them?

Out of curiosity, what would be so great about a '33 start for minors?

For me, it's about the different political situation. Spain is still stable-ish, Italy is firmly in the French-British camp, Hitler is just getting started, and so on. Such a DLC could well add different WWII possibilities, from a swift war against an isolated Germany followed by a long desperate grind against the Soviet Union to a Stately Quadrille-like shift of alliances before France declares war on Germany.

EDIT: whoops. For minors - didn't read, sorry. More time to prepare?
