Okay, so I got a suggestion of one simple addition to the custom nation set-up, you should be able to customize existing countries/tags. For example, when you click the "Play as a custom nation"-button, you should get two options 1. create a new custom nation (normal), 2. play as existing tag.

If you chose nr 2 you will get a menu of all tags, existing and not existing at 1444 start and chose one, it will be released with all cored if necessary and then you can alter the ideas/culture/ruler/religion form of government and all that just like normal. Custom nations that you've created earlier can perhaps even be saved in that list.

Why? Because it would be fun to play as/against a Norse Horde France, or Ming gone Coptic Dutch Republic or any of the other of millions of variations that would be possible. What do people think? :)
