I played a game with Lithuania - colonizing vast parts of Northern America - in AGCEEP. During the game I never got an explorer (I switched random events off), even if I was on "land" ...

So I wonder was it just bad luck or did the creators of AGCEEP / EU 2 think, Lithuania was never a colonizing country, so why should they get explorers? On the other hand I read an AAR where a guy playing Uzbecs got at least half a dozen through the game ...

I wanna start a new game tomorrow and love to explore, that's why Id like to know ;) Thanks!

If the leader file for the country you are playing does not include explorers and conquistadors, you can't get them if random events are turned off.

I don't know if AGCEEP uses a different set of random events or not. In vanilla, to get a random explorer you need to have naval tech 11 and be at least 2 (or is it 3?) steps toward naval on the land/naval slider, AND it must be at least 1550. Even so I have had the misfortune of having to wait 200 years for this event to fire after eligibility. Admittedly, that was rather bad luck; usually you get one within 100 years or so.

Bottom line: if you don't get a historical explorer it may be very difficult to get any, even if you advance tech and DPs appropriately. On the other hand, random conquistadors tend to pop up every now and then for everybody. They are much more reliable.

thats an argument against agceep :(

i mean i got the maps from spain and other to discover northern america and colonize it - but why no explorers? :(
i guess lorraine or some indian state never get explorers in agceep then?

on the other hand i really hate to play with random events - they spoilt more than one of my games ... so i have to decide whats the lesser evil

or you'll just remove either all events except the conquistador/explorer ones or you remove the events that you think spoil your game :)

don't know if it has anything to do with it, but it does help if you own a coastal province... for me that is... :)

How do random events spoil your game? Because they lower stability? You just need to be ready for that then. Make sure to convert provinces and adjust DP sliders so that your stability costs aren't that high.

Besides, a game without any random events lowering stability is quite unhistorical. These were not stabile times.

And dealing with the unexpected problems created by the random events is part of the fun of playing the game, IMO. Playing along knowing everything that's going to happen to you is strange.

The only random occurrence that I can think of that's a possible showstopper is civil war. It was a long time before I felt ready to face up to one of these. Trouble is, it's not an event, and is thus outside the reach of modders.

Well, it can really kill you - I just had it when I played with China in the 16th century... Now I learnt the game a bit better, but i still think there are too many random events ;)
Maybe the game after next one I give it another try with random events ...

Just develop your land and naval techs, and your regular armies and navies will be able to explore. ;)

And build FAAs to take care of your stab problems. :D
