Sometimes the AI empires want to get on your good side as if your decisions are decided by the same opinion modifiers they have, and they will send gifts. It usually comes as a gift of a couple of thousand energy credits. For the player, it's quite easy to milk them for much more by simply not answering the offer. The empire will continue to send the same offer even before the previous one has expired. This way you can wait something like 2 months until the first offer is about to expire, at that point you may have around 7 pending offers which you then accept, to get 20k to 30k credits. I don't know how the AI is paying for it, if it's cheating or actually has all of it stockpiled, but regardless, you will get the money, and it's an exploit that should probably be fixed.

I find they send me these gifts when my current Energy Credit percentage drops suddenly, whether from a hefty expenditure, a trade, or a boost to the maximum stockpile.

I find myself flummoxed with this behavior. They never ask for anything in return, and I usually don't need the help. Even nations with Wary attitudes have given me these gifts. Maybe I should read them as insults, pitying my decisions and implying I can't plan properly.

I notice this generally starts happening when the relative power tooltip tilts to "pathetic", so I think this is how an AI which is behind tries to prevent war with another AI which is doing better. I think it's good that they treat the player empire similarly to other AI empires.

The duplicate offers should probably be fixed.

While the multiple offers abusing is definetely a bug, I actually like the AI attempts to bribe me. Always makes me more pleasant towards them and motivates to give them something as well, be it non agression declaration, commercial or science pact and so on. A small but enjoyable possibility for roleplay.

Especially Wary empires so this. AI sends gifts when they wish to bribe your relations better, same as they do with other AI empires. I've noiced this behavior mostly from empires that are afraid or empires that wish to make some pacts.

It didn't even occur to me they were trying to make me like them lol.
In RL, gifts at face value don't matter to me, it's the acts of service and consideration that I appreciate.

If another empire has something I want, these paltry handouts aren't going to make any difference. I'm happy to strike a fair trade. I respect those that can come up with a solution, but unfortunately the AI isn't good at that, and along with the limitations of the game, it's hard to give and receive in equal value. If another empire has nothing I want, and will never be a threat or cause trouble, I won't attack them. I'm not out to conquer the galaxy, I just want to create a nation-state whose whole focus is on the welfare and development of its citizens, and possesses the clout to ensure that.

I won't be accepting these gifts anymore.

Yes, I agree the gifts tend to come when I actually need them, which might go to show that there is a calculation as if I was an AI, making them see energy valued by me much like I would if I tried to send trade offers to them. And I know the opinion modifiers are still calculated for players, but the AI acts as if that actually dictates my diplomatic decisions, which it ultimately doesn't. I still like that they try, but when diplomacy is improved, maybe the entire thing they want should be handled by one trade deal that you either accept or decline, like: "I give you 2,5k credits and we sign a NAP", so that the system works on players too.
