Explain theatre's to me.

In HOI 4 there is no real command structure anymore. At least not in the sense as HOI # (division> Corp> Army> Army Group> Theatre.

Bow there are generals and field Marshall, impacting the amount of divisions these are able to command efficiently.

After watching the WWW's and the DD's, I am still unsure how Theatres work as apposed to the Armies led by either generals or FM's.

Theatres are a way to sort and organize your armies and group them up.

Lets say you only want to see the relevant armies when looking and the eastern front, then you simply create a new theatre call it whatever you want - lets say "Eastern Front" - and put the armies on the eastern front in there. Now only the armies of the eastern front will show at the bottom of the screen. If you now select an unit in another theatre it will automaticly swap to that theatre again.

Its alot easier to manage your armies in different theatres than having literaly over 30 armies on the bottom of the screen at once.

So In a slightly more abstracted way, it is still a way to group your, armies , (well generals and fieldmarshalls now) And give them collective orders?

If so, can you still give orders to individual generals contrary to theater orders?

theaters are only a way to sort your armies, kinda like an folder. They dont have any other real gameplay impact other than showing you little icons of what is going wrong in that theatre like lack of supply or something like that. They make managing alot of armies alot easier, since only armies in that particular theater will show on the bottom of the screen if you select it.

So if I understand you correctly, they are just a tool for sorting and organizing your armies, but not actually a higher level of command, meaning not being able to give orders to theatre's and so on?

yes. It is only a sorting and organizing function, but it will tell you if something is wrong with armies in that theater. You give your armies plans, which they execute on your command, but you can still do manual adjustments at any given time. Theaters have nothing to do with that.
