Explain the focus trees to me please

Lets see from what I understand (basing on the generic focus tree https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...h-development-diary-1st-of-april-2016.917096/):



-Solid lines mean that they lead into another one, so to get equipment effort 2 I need equipment effort 1 and to get that I need army effort.
-Each solid line is as good as the other into leading to a convergent path. To get Special forces I need to get either Equipment effort 3, Dcotrine effort 2 and armor effort. Or do I need all 3?
-The exclamation points are the mutually exclusive ones, so I can get either flexible navy or large navy.
-What are the dotted lines? I thought they were to show that you need to link to both to get the requirements, but fighter focus and bomber focus converge into aviation effort and they are mutually exclusive?

So say, if I want to get extra research slot II, what do I need? Do I need to follow one path? (Say, industrial effort -construction effort-infrastructure effort 1- infrastructure effort 2-extra reseach slot 1 and 2) or do I have to get both paths leading into it?( in addition to all above I also need Aviation effort-Fighter focus or bomber focus-Aviation effort 2)

And seriously what are the dotted lines supposed to mean? Will it be possible for, like in Shogun 2 Total war, to click on the technology I want and the game will automatically go on that path?

Unless I have been interpreting the trees wrong I have been taking solid lines as mandatory (probably the wrong word) so for your Special Forces example you need all three of Equipment Effort III, Doctrine Effort II and Armour Effort before you can select it.

The dotted lines as either option one or option two. So Aviation Effort II you can choose after either Fighter Focus or Bomber Focus. I'm not really sure what happens when a solid line touches a dotted line. It makes the area around Aviation Effort II, CAS Effort, And NAV Effort look confusing for people like us who haven't actually played the game and learnt how the focus system works.

By what I've understood, solid lines mean "AND" -type connections and dotted lines mean "OR"-type - so you need to have all solid lines leading to a focus completed, or a single dotted one.

Does that meant that we can have a large navy of submarines or a flexible navy of capital ships?

But one part confuses me still, to get CAS, we would need:

Motorization effort, fighter focus or bomber focus, aviation effort and Naval effort?

Seems like too much research done for CAS effort. Same with Special forces, I know they focus trees are just a bonus, but it seems weird how specialized you need to be. To have the bonus for special forces you need to do an effort on all 3 branches, but I guess it makes sense since the special forces require the doctrines and equipment and armor?

But yeah dotted lines as an OR option seems to make sense.

Flexible navy can get all naval focuses but large navy can not get submarine and destroyer focuses because flexible navy is needed for these.

And

And
Army effort->Motorization effort->CAS effort

They all connect to CAS effort with a solid line. This si why I first thought that a solid line was an OR with an unclear dotted line.

No it does not, the dotted line go from flexible navy to cruiser effort, lines only travel downwards.

Large Navy is on the 2nd tier, submarine effort is on the 3rd tier.

They are connected with a dotted line that connects to a solid line. I am not arguing, I just want to see how the technology flows in this game

Sure, we have some. Just read the DDs and watch the streams. But nothing's really guaranteed to be exactly like in the final product.
