Experiencing massive slow down after 100 years in game

I'm about 100 years into my ERE play and my game is now dreadfully slow. Now I usually play mods but with the patch and DLC release most still need to be updated, so I'm playing vanilla. Now slow speed with mods is one thing because of the amount of content most of them add, but vanilla has never been this terribly slow for me.

Anything I can do to speed things up?

Please try a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

IF that doesn't help Please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the end of the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/CK2/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ directory, post system.log . Open setup.log in notepad and search for 'checksum', post that line only here too please.

Ok I did a complete reinstall and now the game is catastrophically broken, portraits are a jumbled mess as is the loading screen.

Then something has gone badly wrong with that process - all that can ever do is set the game back to the way it was when first installed. You are 100% sure you deleted everything under BOTh the Steam/CK2 AND Documents/CK2 folders?

I did another reinstall, made sure I deleted all CK2 related files and yet it happened again.

Did you mean the Steam CK2 gfx folder? Deleting the documents one did nothing.

Jeez. OK then, manually delete the Steam/CK2/gfx/ and /dlc/ folders, AND the documents/paradox/ck2/gfx/ folder. Now run a verify in Steam until it gets 0 errors, and run the game up again please.

Still not fixed, verify said there were no errors. I'm begginging to be worried my CK2 might be broken forever :sad:.

The reinstall just sets things back to the way they were when you first installed. If it worked then it should work now. I must get 10 people a week to do that and none of them have these problems ...

Please try a full clean re-install and Steam refresh:

- move any valued save games elsewhere

- exit Steam
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- manually delete everything in the Steam folder EXCEPT steam.exe and the /SteamApps/ folder
- manually run steam.exe to rebuild all that stuff
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

Well when I originally installed the game it was on Gamersgate, could installing it through Steam cause something like this to happen?

well, i´m having the same slowdown issue.

already reinstaled the game as you said with almost no results.

i'll post the dxdiag when i get home, i really want know what causing this, because i have the same problem with EU4 and even with the old VIC2.

No, as Steam installs the game in it's own folder and going by the conversation here you deleted the game folder and the ck2 folder in 'documents',
so there is no reason to believe that there is some conflict of any kind (a former non-Steam version user myself).

The graphical error usually only happens if the ck2 folder in documents is not deleted.....(edit) or if some portrait DLC hasn't updated properly, but that is rare.

Steam verify ususally takes some minutes. If it's over in seconds, just do it again. (CK2 in 'library' - right click - properties - local files - 'verify integrity of game cache').
Check if your Steam launcher is updated ( in Steam upper left - Steam-left click - 'Check for Steam Client updates').



edit: Did you do what AndrewT suggested in post#10 ? Might be your Steam installatzion is corrupt and the post describes uninstalling the game and Steam and reinstalling both.

Alright with the new patch out I tried a complete re install again and everything works fine now. Don't know why but it works .
