Well, i'm trying to write a war story. So, it would be nice if you could give your comments. Read on...
Chapter 1
So after getting beaten at the beaches we were forced to retreat to avoid decimation. It is scary to think how many casualties we inflicted, us a few battalions against a whole division. 352. Infanterie-Division is ordered to set yp along the bridges nearby Tréviéres and Carentan, with small detachments at the swamp creating a defence line. I'm currently at Trévieres and they say we should receive a detachment from a Sturmgeschütz battalion. HQ and base need to be set up, so fortunately at the moment, we have no orders except keep alert.
The only thing to do is talk to my pals, Johann-Georg and Hans Altmann, and of course the rest of the battalion nearby. Being nervous and sick feels terrible knowing family is counting on me and I could die at any moment. I express my feeling but everybody else feels the same, and that makes me feel happier knowing i'm not a minority. After our beach experience, absolutely no-one is fool-hardy and no-one feels invulnerable.
"Achtung, volle deckung!" went Obergefreiter Karl Friedrich. "Flieger, alarm!" screamed Oberschütze Helmut Kummer, and then he shouts "Nach baumen, und busch!" This meant aircraft were ahead. That Karl, i'm sure can hear anything because no-one else heard! We say if you hear planes it's the allies, if not it is the Luftwaffe! All orders are obeyed and all soldiers take cover. The bombs unleased were highly explosive and the ground rumbled and trembled, and when one exploded nearby I slipped, and then my pal Hans Altmann then spoke to me...
