Hi everyone,

I know theres a lot of hate going round for expeditionary forces at the moment, and while I agree on limiting the number of expeditionary forces presented to the player, and aso agree that perhaps a method of 'asking for' forces might prove useful, I have another suggestion.

Given the whole new emphasis on command structures, chains of command, etc. is there a way that individual divisions/ships sent as expeditionary forces could be changed so that they can be added to the players corps of own units, rather than have a load of 1-division units running around?

As a brief example, at El Alamein, British XXX Corps had units from Australia, New Zealand and India, as well as British units under command. At the moment, this is impossible to recreate, since the commonwealth expeditionary divisions remain under their own leaders in 1-division corps.

Obviously, thus would mean that the information and mechanic for what used to be the control = ..... command would need to move from the stack to the unit itself.

This is of course a very good idea, and one with which I quite agree.

Assuming expeditionary forces are handled in a similar way to in HoI2, I feel there ought to be a simple 'off' button in the game menu, so I don't get repeatedly spammed with them as soon as war breaks out.

One of the most annoying aspects of Doomsday, IMO.

The "No Expeditionary Forces" option is already in Armageddon. ;)

That's individual for each country isn't it?

I want a generic, universal option. :)

Totally agree. When I load a game, I sometimes forget that I have to go to each individual country and choose "no." Of course by then it's too late, as I've already been spammed by everyone and I have to either reload or turn over each individual unit one at a time. I particularly like the idea of adding these divisions to my own corps. When I do keep expeditionary forces, I find many of them totally useless because of their low morale and singularity.

-I would also like to add brigades to them, but that is a want and not a need. I wouldn't care if those divisions kept them if the owning country wanted their divisions back.

If it's patched you don't have to do it after reloading.

agreed

i like this idea. as italy it is a real hassle doing the historical move and sending expeditionary forces to germany. germany just disbands my corps which then removes my chosen leaders and i have a bunch of single divisions lead by nobodies running around. i don't like it.

with all the trouble i have with the war in the africa, i want to help out germany in the soviet union, but it's a lot to keep track of. i like the expeditionary system it just needs to be reworked.

Expiditionary forces can be tedeous at times, but having extra manpower as Germany in '41 goes a long way - maybe it's just me. ;)

I (again) disagree with the very negative sentiments towards exp. forces in HOI2

- the system is already very flexible in HOI2 and works most of the time, still players complain like babies instead of doing their job ! Use the exp. forces - don't whine !

- Paradox seems to have made the system to work for 95%, why didn't they finish the job ?

I'll give the needed example - as Germany you take military control of Hungary - you reform their army into a few infantry main battle corp (9 div's) - a few support corp (3 div's) and most often a few mobile corp (3 div's with arm or mot). You pick the generals. Now you relinquish back the control. Now in most occasions you are granted the "reformed corp" - and you have a great asset - and manageable asset in the game. No more "single div's" exp. forces. And if you are given a large enough pool of exp.'s - the AI stops giving them to you. So no more spamming.

Off course it's not perfect - why Paradox didn't finish that job with all the expansions and money they got from us ? F.e. countries like Spain are bigger and reforming the army takes a lot of micromanagement - you need to move all the different divisions to "pools" to reform - it takes time.

And often the AI breaks down the "reformed corp" (after relinquishing) and gives you again all the single divisions. Some nations are more prone to break down before granting (like Spain and Bulgaria are reall troublemakers). But like I said - often it works great and often it's totally mad.

Now the real problem about exp. forces is that the AI doesn't know what to do - the trivial examples =

- Japan has a chinese puppet that keeps on spawning militia ! Really that ratio between militia and regular infantry is just insane (f.e. 100 militia and 5 regular infantry). Like the puppet is totally out of control. It would be very nice if the balance in produced troops is more reasonable,

- I'm the UK and landed on the Atlantikwall, at the same moment the Japanese attacked my Indian possession. What is the USA AI doing ? Sending all of its troops to some little tiny island (with what purpose ?). There's not really a coördination of troops. Especially if you have bigger players in your alliance. I suspect some AI's to run away from trouble and letting their alliance down,

- Another silly thing is the rule of "touching". F.e. as Germany I invaded the USSR - my ally Japan eats up the other half of the USSR. Now - as soon as Germany and Japan are "touching" in regard with occupied provinces. The AI sends me a huge pile of exp. troops to control. Sorry, at that moment it's not my front to control and really Japan is a full member of my alliance - why should Japan behave like a puppet and send mil. control of their entire army to me ?
