We are super happy to announce our first expansion Space Race!

Space Race focuses on rival colonies and mission sponsors. It pits Earth’s greatest countries and most powerful companies against each other as they compete for the limited resources available on Mars. Whether it’s stealing key colonists or monopolizing crucial discoveries, be sure not to let your comrades in colonizing get the upper hand!

Space Race releases later this year. Find out more: https://pdxint.at/2RmmPh9

Looks like it'll add some interesting dynamics to gameplay. Overall, looking forward to more dev diaries on the details.

As seen at 1:22 on the video...
Rival Colonies: Sounds like the anti-meteorite defenses will be put to additional use. Hoping that the option to raid is also available (assuming that they can raid my colony, I don't want to always be the good guy)
Trading System: Presumably something that develops if you avoid raiding neighbors and competition survives?
Random Events: Good news for paradox fans
New vehicles and buildings: Always good
Planetary Anomalies: How will these be different than the current anomalies?
New Sponsors: Always good

This looks really good, I expected a tourism DLC but this is more creative and more interesting. I'm glad I got the season pass. The only thing it's missing is a Soviet Mission Sponsor.

New vehicles and buildings: boring if it will be only models
Planetary Anomalies: bigger meteroids such wow!
New Sponsors: boring

Will be DLC included in Season Pass?

Cool. I noticed that there are two versions of the expansion being offered. Which one (if any) will be the one given to season pass owners?
This. I'll admit I've only got a few hours of Surviving Mars in, but I did get the Season Pass and I'd like to know which version I'll be getting.

You serious? We got a trailer showcasing some of it. Surviving Mars is a solid game and the features listed in that trailer will most likely make it better, especially ai opponents or even multiplayer would be interesting. If you are that cynical about it, skip it?

Not complaining, just looking for information:

How much of "Season Pass will add two full expansions and two content packs to Surviving Mars" will be used for the upcoming dlc?

Reading the above linked twitter message it sounds like 3 out of 4 ...

Oh god, only way to make this trailer less subtle is directly inject something like this:
latest

I pre-ordered the Space Race Plus package.
It was supposed to include the following 3 items:

Surviving Mars: Space Race
Surviving Mars: Colony Design Set
Surviving Mars: Marsvision Song Contest

However, on the library page in the Steam app, in the list of DLC, only the Surviving Mars: Space Race item is listed. I was expecting the other two to be listed as well.
Is it an error, or are they kept track of in the background and will still be installed when the DLC is released?

Teaser of the global map posted on twitter.

That actually answers one of my big questions. I was a little worried that all your rivals would be crammed onto the same map and you'd be fighting over resource deposits and usable space. However it looks like each colony will be on it's own map, and on top of that you'll be able to send expeditions to unsettled areas, which is much better.

One thing I'm curious about is how this expansion will impact breakthroughs. Will you be able to unlock more breakthroughs than is currently possible by forming agreements with other colonies or launching expeditions? I don't have a strong opinion either way, but I would like to find out.

Looks great! I love that we can finally trade and interact with other colonies. I have a few questions:

Is the Megamall a new building or a cosmetic change to an existing one, like the Casino?
I assume the Colony Design Set is only cosmetics to existing buildings, are we getting more new buildings for the colonists needs in Space Race?

Are the rival colonies in the same map as ours or are these off-map elsewhere on Mars and we interact with them from far away?

The Livestream mentioned that there would be new 3-tile housing units in the Colony Design sets (and we do see it during the trailer), probably 3-tile versions of living quarters and/or apartments. So at least some of the new buildings in the pack will be functionally different in at least small ways.

The map I linked pretty definitively shows that rival colonies will be elsewhere on Mars. No idea what the mechanisms are for going to other areas will be, other than that they'll exist.

Thanks! I forgot to edit that I had seen the the map, I'm glad they're elsewhere, wouldn't want them snatching my rare metals.
