It is not really choice of "all or nothing", as Semper Fi is pretty playable, certainly few notches above starting HOI3.
But to get even better experience, it is good idea to buy next expansion. If you read reviews and don't like next expansion, stick with Semper Fi, it can provide hundreds of hours of enjoyment already.

Yes, it is this ongoing support that keeps us buying their games, that and the fact that apart from the problems they often have on release, overall they are good games. Pity other companies do not follow suit so often.

Request for next expansion: A well researched revision of all on-map resourses, manpower, infrastructure, IC and leadership. These should be as accurate as possible and then not messed with in an attempt to balance the game, other ways to balance need to be looked at and these core values never touched unless they are revised for accuracy.
Something else is that leadership and manpower was not static, so losing a province did not always mean you lost what it's population had to offer. People just get up and move. French, Belgian, Jewish and Polish interlectuals and inventors etc went to places like London, while much of the Soviet leadership and manpower simply retreated. Can the devs find a way to model this dynamic?

The way Paradox codes, no computer in the world will ever be powerful enough. I guess it's not a big thing for you to upgrade, but for me, it is. I'm not in a really nice financial situation, and I can't even play the game right now. Are you going to buy me a new computer? It sucks when you're one of the people that have to upgrade. Instead of bloating the current engine more, they should focus on making it a lean mean machine, that runs smooth on most PCs. With balanced gameplay. If they would make supply user-controllable, WHAT EVERYBODY WANTS, it would save ALOT of cpu cycles. They just don't want to spend the resource coding it.

I think this is what we have been doing though. HoI3 1.0 demanded a LOT from your computer, crazy much even. Every patch has increased performance, and SF did so even more. Then came Victoria 2, which is even more optimized. We are aware that this is an issue, and for every thing we release, we make a lot of optimizations these days. I'm talking about allover performance now, not user controlled supply specifically. That would not really make a big difference, since the AI still needs to calculate everything.

I know that Clausewitz came out at a time where it was not possible to predict which route the nextgen hardware would take, or maybe re-writing it would have been unwise from a cost/efficiency standpoint. But I have to admit, it is frustrating that basicly 4 of my 6 cores are asleep while Vicky 2 slows to a crawl during the endgame...

Oh and @ topic: Nice. Looking forward for it. :)

For russian soil:
- A "snow" movement/attack/defend value would be good

- Hopefully "sub_detection" and "sub_attack" values to air units will be added.
- Give back a ASW mission, also for Airforce

This is also good for modders implementing the areal sub hunting of "seaplanes"

Actually it is difficult for me to buy a new computer, I am a uni student and do not have a lot to spare as well. Even so, I still find some bargain computer parts from time to time and manage to keep my system running fast enough, but if I couldn't, I would not expect the world to wait for me to start earning before they advance software to place higher demands on hardware. It is great that they are optimizing the code but I also think this game needs an improved version of this current engine capable of calculating a lot more than it can atm to allow for cleverer AI, so if that requires higher system requirements so be it (after the current optimizations can go no further of course).

If your hobby become to expensive, change it. Anyways, you should not be gaming, you should be studying and drinking with your mates. :)

That's my point really.

The game should be patched properly before releasing Expansions. Anything else is an 'Expatchsion'. Semper Fi is nothing more than a patch for 19.99.

Before the Fanbois make witty remarks, I actually paid an overpriced specially imported Hoi1 way back in the day, because One; Hoi 1 was a great game. Two; Paradox and the Devs should be rewarded for a good product.

I admit, Semper Fi fixed alot of things and made Hoi 3 playable. But as a Gamer, you should not be paying for a patch to 'fix' what should have been out of the box in the first place.

This "should have been included on release" argument is bullsh*t. Demanding the fixing of bugs is one thing, but declaring that a certain feature should have been included out of the box makes no sense.

Games should be patched properly before they get expansions. And people shouldn't die of hunger or disease.

And as a Costumer, you get what you pay for. End of story.

I think he means that the game should be playable when it's released, and by playable he means that core game features shouldn't be broken or bugged, and that the AI should know how to use them, which I don't think is too much to ask for.

There no reason for them to change their QA though, since people still buy their games and expansions and continue to work on them and mod them.

Some more competition would be healthy I think, since they seem to almost have a monopoly on these type of games :)

You all have a point, but comparing SF 2.03c and Hoi 3 1.00 is very unfair, as the first one has gotten thousands of hours of patching work after millions of hours gameplay tests and you were charged 20 € more. You just can´t compare both situations, and no company can make a 1.00 version half as good as another one with on expansion and 8 patches.

Even HOI3 1.2/1.3 were quite crappy, though. SF was just a bigger patch with some rashly implemented features (which cannot be used by the AI :()...

Johan "nearly" confirmed that they work on multicore-support for this expansion.
If I remember correct, he said something like "I can't confirm this 100% now, because I want to wait until we see this implementation won't bring serious issues..."

Yes which implies that they are working on it ;)
Otherwise he had said "no won't be in"

It is just smart not to confirm something which isn't 100% ready.
But the fact that they try means to me it is definatly on the list...

With my recent experience playing USSR I would like to see a manual option to change my capital. I spent almost 1 year of gametime with Moscow surrounded as the front went by it. So anytime I produced a new unit it was forced on to the stack at Moscow, not very realistic. How about triggering an event anytime any country has it's capital surrounded? The AI certainly could use the as it would seem to be an exploit as you get penalized for overstacking now.
