Hey everyone, Cities Skylines PS4 player here!
When ascertaining how the economy of your city performs, a good indicator is productivity and to be more specific, the net trade balance of what a city imports and exports.
Of course we can view how much is imported and how much is exported in the data visualization tab. To be more specific the traded goods tab or the tab with the boxes stacked on each other may appear unimportant.
However, it would be important to streamline the information on the data visualization tab through net exports and as well as a historic record of net exports on the city info tab. Quite frankly, net trade is a clear indicator of a productive city and I believe everyone should be aware of it to understand the economics of Cities Skylines more thoroughly.
Already the city information tab details employment, taxation, treasury balance and much more. Why not a historic recording of net exports of your city?
Did you know that real life countries use the balance of trade to measure the productivity of their own countries!
To the economic buffs out there, trade is essential in detailing how efficient your city is and if I were to take a step further, a historic recording of the import and export of the core resources that a city can produce. By doing this, players can micromanage what should be produced more or less to lessen the demand on imports.
If I may add, I don't believe Mail should be classed as imports and exports but it should have it's own tab on the data visualization tab and even on the city info tab as well.
I believe the game would receive more intense focus on the economics of Cities Skylines and the change to the game as a whole would be changes in how data is presented to players in making informed decisions on expanding industry and making our cities productive.
I hope you enjoyed reading my suggestion and I'd be stoked if it's implemented in Cities Skylines, across all platforms!
