What is your most exotic EU4 rule that probably only you and a few other people actually know.


For instance:

Automatic White Peace

If two nations are at war and don't actually fight (no blockading, fighting or occupying) then there will be an automatic white peace after a few years. You just get the pop up that a white peace is signed. No player interaction is needed.


On this point I want to know similar exotic set of rules or strategies from you. They don't have to be particularly useful but at least they should still be working in the current patch (as far as you know it).

Taking provinces as a nation with its capital in the new world instead of using the cecede colonial area option creates AE without a distance modifier with same-religion nations that aren't subjects.

Should work without your capital in the new world too, haven't tested it.

Its a helpful little rule. I noticed this one time I played with custom nations in a MP game. I was Scotland or England and was trying to take out some Irish nations. Another player picked a Western nation in the New World and could see Europe so he tried to mess with me by guaranteeing independence or something of that nations I was fighting. He thought he was gonna make me have to wait to sail to the New World to fight him, but after like 25 years of no fighting I won the war and he was like "What?!?" Good times

Actually, you're thinking of a different rule.

If, after five years have passed in war you occupy the entirety of the primary belligerent, you automatically get 100% warscore.

Reminds me of the time I declared on the AI Pope in multiplayer and a rival decided to get in on the war to screw with me, and I took the entire peace deal in land from him instead.

A nation will always declare a war after switching to DoW mode even if the original target isn't available anymore as long as there's a valid target.
Which can be abused by being a valid target, followed by recruiting enough units to become invalid after they switched to DoW mode.

It's like an ally without favors.

And if Gnivom really fixes POI it might actually become reliable again.

I found this one out the hard way while playing as a horde: Savannah is NOT considered flat terrain for....some reason?
Must be them trees! Those sparsely spread-out trees and bushes! They just won't allow the horsemen to do their thing:D

Not sure if it's really a rule or just a handy trick, but if you're wanting to DoW someone who has a coastline and a neighbour with a coastline, get military access from the neighbour, set troops to travel from boat to land and then declare war the day before your troops land. Lets you essentially bypass the exiled troops in military access territory and still position troops right on the border. Handy for situations where you're attacking overseas and don't have an ally to park troops in.

this can be really helpful to force shattered retreats and wipes early on in wars, provided you can reach all enemy provinces somehow.

Coastline isn't either.

ai nations cannot retreat to a province that neighbours a province where you have a regiment on. 1k or 10k, dosn't matter.

They won't retreat adjacent to such a province either. Even if one of those adjacent provinces is unreachable to you due to ZoC, you can force AI stacks to instead retreat to a province adjacent to the one they fought.

To trigger Janissary event as Ottoman you need to have the following requirement:

Has at least 50 army tradition
  • Ruler has at least 5 in , any skill


You wont really know that unless you read it under Ottoman Events in the wiki

You can use your vassals unit types (both tech and tech group) by recruiting armies in one of their provinces trough the province menu.
(but obviously not the macro builder)

Also you can create vassal states on other continents as long as you have a continuous land connection.
