Hey guys!

I've finally got a good Ryukyu WC going game, and thought I would collect some titles along the way. Here's the situation so far:

1) I'm a Catholic monarchy
2) France is the current HRE emperor
3) My capital is in Havana
4) Over a couple of wars, I've forced France's capital to the New World, as it was their only province left

I thought once I forced France to the NW, I'd become eligible to be the emperor, but I've still got the -1000 malus. Through a bit of save-scumming, I've found that moving to Europe makes me eligible, but I'd rather not do that.

So, not a huge issue (I don't need the HRE emperorship), but was wondering if there was something I was forgetting. Thank you all!

Oh, and I'm on Patch 1.21.1 if that matters.

I believe you should still be eligible, provided you don't have a queen. Keep playing long enough to see what happens if France's king dies. I bet you or someone else in NA will be elected.

One more update, just in case anyone else is interested in the future: I did a test run with the console, starting as Austria. I lost a bunch of wars and exiled myself to Africa. Now, it says I'm ineligible to be the emperor, even though I'm the current emperor.

Curious...

As I understand it: you can't be elected Emperor without a European capital. You can be Emperor, though, and if you make the empire hereditary by any means then you will remain Emperor.

If there are no eligible candidates to elect and the current Emperor dies (and the Empire is still elective rather than hereditary), then the Empire dismantles.

That seems to be how it's working. But the patch notes seem to be saying something different:
  • Countries on a different continent than the current Emperor are no longer eligible to be Emperor.
In my test run, France was exiled to America, and then Austria took over the reins when the emperor died.

Not a huge deal, I just liked trying to turn over stones when I get a chance.

I've tested in non-iaronman games now for patch 1.13, 1.21, and 1.24. Here's what I've been doing...

1) Start as Austria
2) Add Benghazi (Africa) as a core
3) Lose some wars until Benghazi is all that's left and my capital moves there

In 1.13, it says that me and the other African Christians are the only eligible emperors. In 1.21 and 1.24, however, it says that I, the current emperor, am not eligible after the move.

I looked through all the patch notes and couldn't find anything saying the eligibility rule was changed, and the wiki still says it. Again, not a huge issue, but now my curiosity is piqued.
