Currently I'm in need of cash and can't afford to send merchants to COTs. I was reading that offering exclusive trade rights as a merchant republic is a waste of diplomats, but now I'm not a merchant republic so I was wandering is it worth accepting an exclusive trade rights offer. Hansa wants to get all of my fur which is being produced in two provinces that aren't my cores yet so I get penalties for production and whatnot.

It does as the tooltip says; unless you have merchants in that CoT there's really no reason not to accept, and even if you do it's pretty good. The reason that people advise you not use it if you're the merchant republic is that it lowers the value of the goods, but it can still be useful if you ask people who are too far out of range to be interested in joining your trade league (for example venice getting iron trade rights from england).

As a merchant republic, never ask for trade rights unless you cannot get them to trade through you by adding them to your league.

As anything else, always accept trade right requests unless you trade through a centre of trade you own/use AND you have increadible trade efficiency. that +66% production efficiency is worth a hell of a lot.
