Not taking into account any designer motives on the naming of the Dutch provinces, the following name changes would be making much more sense:
Leiden -> The Hague
The Hague -> Rotterdam
Rotterdam -> Breda
Breda -> Tilburg
The rest seems fine.

PS: And how about rivers "inside" provinces? How the combat penalties will apply?

I did see some penalties when I charged across a river in Poland and it was much more difficult but no %'s were being displayed.

Wait a minute... So how is it? The most dominant terrain type is determining province? And what about forest with hills - is it a separated terrain like wooded hills?
I thought that its some kind of mix with all that terrain types etc like 20% forest 30% clear and 50% urban ... :(

There are woods and forests, don't know the difference though.

That would make Holland perfect. Altough I still don't know if Gouda should be there. It has no strategic significance. In fact Gouda has no militairy history at all apart from a when the Guezen tried to sieze the water-port by sneaking in during the night. The plan botched when the moron who should have opened the gate from the inside dropped the key on the pavement.....almost in front of my house! And some bombs fell on the station and in the city center not more then a dozen meters from my house. Always know the history of your own place ;)

And thanks for answering some of the questions King!

NG divisions were origianlly square (4 regement) divisions. As opposed to the triangular (3 regement) set up for the regular army.

Ah, so it's a pre-built template while the numbered templates are the custom ones?

Yeah alot of us thought that it might be the system from EU3 - with terrain %s - but apparently we were wrong. [Deep breath]...aaaaand I'm over it.

:rofl:

I'm surprised they didn't keep the EU3 system as well. As far as I'm concerned, it's not a problem, especially since the provinces are so much smaller now.

Mosby,

What do Engineer brigades bring to the table for the Divisions that they are in? Do they bring anything to the table for Divisions that they are not assigned to (units in the same stack as they are in)?

I've yet to see a stack larger than a single division.

Dublish do you know what Engineer brigades bring to the table? If not please don't post silly comments since there are plenty of pictures of stacks with multiple divisions in them. For example the picture of Holland as shown by Mosby shows 3 stacks of Inf. Divisions with more than one Division per stack.

Granted. They should still have some effect on the Corps they are assigned to (as long as the whole Corps is in, & moving from, the same province). A battalion (1,000 man "brigade" ingame) is enough to conduct a bridging operation for at least that large a unit. They might, however, have to be assigned to the Corps HQ to have such an effect - something to try anyway.

I'd appreciate it if you didn't disregard my comments as 'silly' just because I'm using different terminology than you. Thanks.

For what it's worth, I've rarely seen the term 'stack' applied to anything other than units grouped together.

I tend to disagree: in reality Ede is situated above the river Rhine rather than below it. And I do hope the Waal, IJssel, parts of the Maas, the Zeeland isles and the Enschede (Emlichheim) regions will be properly adjusted. It remains odd to see Maastricht north of the neck of Limburg rather than south of it, and I do hope the southern tip of Limburg will be widened. And those are just the parts I can see in the screen shot... I can recall the number of Waddenzee isles being off in earlier screenies as well. To sum up: apparently Holland alone still needs some major rework mapwise. I love the potential HOI3 apparently has, but there's certainly still room for improvement...

Is it possible to rename the custom ones to something slightly more fun then 'template IX'? :)

No, at the moment it is not possilble.

I think renaming Ede to Oss instead is a better sollution then putting it north of the river. Otherwise the strategic makeup of Holland is jeopardized as you have more then one province to defend in the Grebbeline. Next to that if you for some reason put "market-garden" into effect there is a province needed north of Eindhoven. Hence the provinces are ok but Ede should be Oss.

I don't have any problems with the map though. Sure, some names are incorrect and as always there is room for improvement but that makes something to do for the modders.

It's the way the term "stack" is used in every wargame except for HoI1/2.

Oss definately. If the developers take over the suggestions put forward in this thread then the dutch provincial setup would be great out of the box. And since it only involves changing the names it shouldn't be any problem.

Anyway, nice preview and I'm very interested in the remainder. Looking forward to it and thanks! :)

Sorry, I'm not familiar where Ede ought to be. :D
I do know Oss makes sense at that spot, so that would be a fine name.

Should'nt Single Player and Multi Player on the start screen be Singleplayer and Multiplayer? I'm no englishman, but I thought you could either write "single-player game" or "singleplayer game", but not "single player game".

I know I'm picky, but just trying to help out (no second chance to make a first impression on those new customers).
