Summary:

Where does the future lie for all the awards in the AARs and Fanfiction forum, and how will future awards be organised and by whome. The purpose of this would be to establish policy towards awards, both current and active in nature, so as to establish whether all awards, both current and active are attainable, or maintainable as the situation may determine at the time, with nothing precipited, so as to influence the future discourses of such events to form a coheriant polciy towards the handling of such affairs in so far as it can be established a time-table of sorts so as suitable preperations and in a run up period to the awards, when they are determined to take place, so that the relevent people involved in such a project can undertake them in a suitable time, and also for the awards themselves, to not clash or hinder one other during an established time period. Therefore, to be blunt, bordering on direct, using gross generalisations and over simplifications, who will be doing what and when?

A sensible, coherent policy aimed towards the maintenance of old AARland features (Be they awAARds, librAARies, or bAARs) and the review and facilitation of new ones would be a most beneficial addition to the AARland culture. A perrenial problem with such endeavours in the past was that they were routinely ignored, or simply forgotten about, by the good majority of AARland, and the one or two people that had dedicated themselves towards preserving those much treasured traditions inevitably find themselves no longer having the time, or the interest, to continue with their commitments. Perhaps if there were some sort of system, an 'order of succession', if you will, so that these treasured traditions can continue regardless of the current status of their progenitor, which may somehow also ensure that these traditions will always be kept in the public eye instead of slipping away into obscurity.

Of course, this was not exactly the subject of your post, which seemed to, to a ridiculous degree, focus on a single, specific issue, employing convoluted language besides. This seems to be a 'roman a clef', if you will forgive this brutal misapplication of the term, of an event that is occuring in the present day that you seem to have issue with. If these assumptions are true, I kindly ask you to be more straight-forward about them, so those that are familiar with the specific event can explain the process that led to the enabling of said events.

What I believe the fine Sir H is trying to say is that he wishes for a schedule for the AARwards. Not only that, but he wants a list of people whos responsibilites to the AARwards are previously set out. The reason for this is to create an ongoing and stable AARward ceremony (or ceremonies) that can be looked forward to.

Well I mean even a list saying that right: Oscaars held in week XXXX of 2005, Victoria Cross held in week XXXX of 2006, Scrolls of Valour held in week XXXX of whenever.

What, exactly, are "Scrolls of Valour"?

As for the rest, I'd agree - I'd like to see the OscAAR and OscAAR equivilants from the other games see a regular schedule. But the forum, as a whole, seems to have little opinion on not just their worth, but place and effectiveness. See many Director AARticles in the Gazette and a thread or two from this main section that show this. (Scroll for a bit and you will find them.)

I like that we have them (truly), but recognize how they work and see that there is something amiss. They seem to glorify popularity, do not really promote futher readership (especially of the older AARs) and tail off as all AAR projects do after a piece.

And as for other responsibilities for other projects, they are pretty much set and easily seen. It is simply difficult to keep any one project moving forward given both the state of this forum but also the personal lives of those that inhabit it. Any forum has this same issue. I know I have much to make up for in the Vickie area in that I have not updated that librAARy since April. But time (and frankly, desire) has kept me from doing so - which I hope to rectify soon. Further - it has never been set in stone (and certainly nothing chaining a person to a project - that a leader will stick with it.)

For the OscAARs - well, it's up to the rest of the folks. How much do they wish to participate? The latest round in HoI (ReadAARs Choice) had a good turn out. I'd like to see the other aeas get that same reaction. We tried it with Vickie and saw little of that. Suggest a cure. I'm sure we'll at least listen, if not have something to say about it.

I noticed. If Paradox makes a Roman-era game, the Scroll of Valour should definitely be the OscAAR equivalent for that game. :nods:
