I can see where reapy is coming from, but I disagree on the grounds that Wizard Wars felt streamlined and optimized (especially given for what it is meant to be), but Magicka 2 just feels dumbed down.

Wizard Wars was indeed an okay game. I quite enjoyed it for a while.

@ Pieces Interactive:
What is not okay is thinking you could take something like Magicka and remove things from it, water it down and call it a sequel.

I don't care about new robes.
I sure as he...ck don't give a fu...ngus about some gimmicky artifacts!
What I hoped for was the pure unadulterated POWER of magic. And working netcode. The mechanics may have needed some cleaning and oiling. The game was after all greatly inefficient when it came to graphic fidelity/computing power after all...

But noooo... that's not enough. You have to go ahead and change so many things for no reason whatsoever.
Like why was the Arcane element changed to a black "darkness beam"? Why? It's not a darkness beam in the original game! It's a beam of arcane power with a reddish color.
And why, when you cast AoE spells that have ARCANE in them, there appear magic cirles in the ground? OOH so magicky. And also unnecessary. There were no such things in the original game and they are not needed here.
Why can't I make a lightning beam?
What did you do with Lightning Ice walls of certain death?
Why does everything have to be so different?
ne of my main gripes with Magicka 2, from what I've seen, is that the game feels balanced from the opposite perspective of Magicka 1. Magicka 1 felt like it gave players all the tools they could want, and then induced difficulty and enforced balance through the environment and through the various mobs you encountered, whereas Magicka 2 felt like it was balanced by taking as many tools away from the player as possible and then making them clunky to use.
Well said.

What do you think this achieves anyway? Cutting away bad parts? You have no clue. The audacity to think you could be so liberal... You did not invent the Magicka universe. You did not invent its magic system. You don't get to decide what was good or bad. If you want to make a sequel ride a game someone else made, then at least have respect for the original work. Pieces Interactive I understand you're ambitious. You want to leave your mark in history. Maybe you were afraid that if you didn't take measures like this, nobody would notice you? Well now I have noticed you and I hate you.

Rayn, your choice of robe is appropriate.

I understand being mad, believe me. I'm livid. But hate? No. Slow your roll, Sir. They don't understand what they've done.

I think the core is that in Magicka 1, you felt like a badass. In Magicka 2, you don't.

Changing "Arcane" to "Death" and giving it a black core bedecking it with enochian runes to contrast against the grass and flowers produced by Life is actually awesome.

Well if they had made the same game as Magicka 1 with better graphics and performance people would just whine that Magicka 2 is the same game but more shiny.
Changes had to be made, though I sure not agree with all of them. For example - the world really feels a little bit plastic, the magick hotkeys should not be there, magicks should not have a cooldown (magicka 1 was cool because you could do whatever you wish with no dependence on mana or cooldowns) - focus belongs to a competitive game like Wizard Wars. I have not played the sneak peek myself as I was away for the weekend, but I watched a few videos of it, so I cannot comment on the effectiveness of wards, though I can say I liked that if you have a death ward you would get healed by death laser. From what I have read here the shared camera for multiplayer is still here - I would like that removed, please.
I agree with most of Argotha's points - these "bugs"or whatever they are, should really be fixed before release

Well, since you can cast magicks with elements, hotkeys make you even more powerful! You may even cast electric magicks with hotkeys if you are wet. Wards are ineed weaker but enemies seems to use even more elemental attacks than in the first chapter. For example goblins wizards use lightings, life beams, arcane water beams, teleportation and cold stones. Basically the core of game now is constant moving and dodging enemies attacks while attacking, ccing and kiting enemies just to survive. You can't just use DF ward to be ptotected against anything, the game is a challenge now. You can't even dry yourself under double F ward!.
Some people dislike this, since in Magicka 1 they just used wards to gain full immunity and killed everything staying at one place.

No I wouldn't.

But it surely wouldn't give you any style points compared to the other fifty awesome ways you could win the battle. Magicka didn't make players do anything. That was the beauty in it. You could be just as awesome or boring as you wanted to be.

20. having to register/link a paradox account to access online features, utter garbage. Another account I never wanted (or in this case, had one previously that I never bothered using, which i probably had to register for something else) for a game with a precondition I wouldn't have purchased if I had known about it.

My biggest issue with the game is that I need my selfcast on space :/. Also the spells feel so slugish. Is there no gravity now in Midgard or what?

Was slowly pelting monsters with ice crystals along with the pure crystal staff to death and started to realize I'm being carried super hard by these three other guys with Helviti staff who just easily delete five monsters with fire arcane balls. Whats up with the damage for the spells in the game? I probably end up being a dirty fireball arcane spammer if I can't keep up with my pathetic damage.

I agree that customizeable controls is a necessity. However, I'd rather !ED prevent rock charge interruption. Actually, everything wrong with the spell system, I'd take over customizeable controls.

I say do it all, delay release, and let us keep testing it to make sure they don't screw it up again.

This was a good suggestion.

Yep, being bitten by a mosquito while casting a rock based spell while wearing full rock armor makes you completely loose control and explode yourself! Now that's rather ridiculous :D The halt key is also very obviously missing. I am, like many others, heavily biased from WW playing and would probably wish more of the smoothness from WW was kept, but trying to keep an open mind about Magicka 2. The rock armor also runs out very fast. I feel myself recasting wards very often even against the common goblin.

Aaaand the inability to queue elements at certain times is a direct affront to the "Freedom of Spellcasting" act heavily fought over in the recent wizard wars....

I completly agree with everything. I mean, there was no need to change anything. Magicka 1 was cool enough, they just had to upgrade it, but they mixed Magicka 1, where you were a suicidal Chuck Norris with Magicka Wizard Wars where you are a boring wizard with only 3 elements.

Then we had Magicka 2 where you cant do anything particularlly OP (Well, you can spam SSSSF :D)

If they just "upgraded" M1, the game vould have even less purpose to exist.

Like, seriously, I'd just gladly buy 15$ DLC to the first game, that tveaks things around, adds 5th story arc and updates textures.

But nov, that everything is nev, there is a point for M2 to be a separate game.
Also, I found being OP entertaining only for about fifteen minutes.\

Hear hov people say that there's no purpose for this game to exist?
Vell, if they did vhat you are suggesting, these voices vould be even louder.
