The AI in the demo did seem a bit.. Silly,
Play Austria in the demo, and round about 1495 or so you will find out exactly how much better the EU4 AI is at playing France compared to the EU3 AI :)

Incidentally, it's not like this is a new thing on the Paradox forums -- EU3 was 'dumbed down' from EU2, HoI3 was 'dumbed down' from HoI2, Darkest Hour was 'dumbed down' from HoI2, Victoria 2 was 'dumbed down' from Vicky 1, CK2 was 'dumbed down' from the NEAR UNPLAYABLE MESS that was CK1, etc.

If it's new, and you are capable of understanding it, the Paradox forums will call it dumbed down.

I like CK2 more then CK1. And EUIV seems like to be a better EUIII. But HoI3 is... To ahistorical for this short time. America became nazi to simple and the whole game isn't really nice for me... I prefer the event driven HoI2 with AoD or DH. And Victoria 2... I never know why I only can conquer regions... and not provinces. Prussia had a claim on Neuchatel in the western Switzerland? Okay... We conquer the whole wester Switzerland!

Will just keep my opinion to myself from now on looks like even the forum are overrun by mass market teens who think this game is not getting dumbed down.

Everyone should be totally cool with your opinions, since they're valid. The issue here is you are not really stating an opinion, you're trying to state a fact without backing it up. (EU4 IS made for the mass market and has been dumbed down. Here is my proof of this in comparison to EU3/other pdox games I feel are not dumbed down: *you didn't say anything*) You based your belief on pure conjecture so of course everyone is going to laugh at you.

Truth.

I think it mostly boils down to the fact that its human nature to not really like change. People get comfortable with one version of the game, & when a new one comes out they cant help but lash out at it because its different from what they are used to. Oh well, thats just the way things are I guess.

Conquer the world in Ironman mode before whining EUIV is too easy. ;)

I think if conquering the world is possible period then the game is too easy. I understand that my opinion differs from others on this point, though, but I feel like a sizable percentage of those who like the EU franchise agree with me.

I'm a new EUIV player, and I preordered today after playing the demo. I was skeptical before, but I love Paradox' CK2 and decided to give it a try. Notice that after playing EU3 (was a gift) for like three hours I quit. The game was inaccessible to me (the strange and unclear the interface killed it mainly). Tried again a few times, some games need time to grow on you, CK2 needed some time. But eventually I dumped EU3.
In the demo of EUIV I actually enjoyed being in the game from the first moment, the content and mechanics are presented and accessible, and don't really have to be wrenched from the game. I really do hope, from the promising tutorial and playtime so far, that I'll get into the game and enjoy it as much as CK2.

I'm a new player, I am the new breed, I am the dumbed down. :)

Largely agreed, but with just one addition: it also helps if he doesn't throw in derisive insults based on stereotypes of an entire population group (which is likely not even the one most represented here) while defending his opinion.

No. A sizeable percentage of the overly vocal forum community agrees with you and it has been established several times over that the forum community is not representative of the entire populace playing the game. Just look at the fuss about a non-steam version for CK2 and EUIV and how many people actually bought CK2 at non-steam outlets. Just because people on the forum seem to largely agree on a topic doesn't automatically mean all players do so as well. Paradox has to pander to those players just as well as to the forumites.

But we love sarcastic comments... I like to think the Paradox community is the largest community of deadpan snarkers on the planet :) I always love the deadpan snarker characters.. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DeadpanSnarker

Stop trying to get me addicted to TVTropes again! Especially with EUIV out now, I can only handle one addiction at a time!

Also, Paradox has nothing on TVTropes when it comes to snark. I'm not sure anyone does.

hating about new games is the new norm these days. People go on a forum and hate about it, then they forget why they hate about it and then it just becomes fun hating about it...

Going on a forum saying this game is just 'mass marketing' and 'dumbed down' without giving explicit ideas why and how, and THEN calling it 'constructive feedback' is just plain trolling just for the heck of it...another form of attention seeking. On every forum, every video on youtube you see this one guy stirring things up just because they get a huge kick and accomplished feeling about it.

Long live the internet and it ability to stay anonymously ..

All this thread about a demo! Really people, we have to wait for the full game to make our final evaluation. Personally, I liked the demo, but I'm not too sure it works in long-term campaigns... and, of course, as anyone, I have my pet features I wanted and weren't there :( .

Too see if the game is worthy, though ( even if it needs some changes), I think we need to wait for the release.

I know what the problem is. OP is Doctor Who (who came to this time only to experience the release of EU4). For his 300+ IQ everything is easy and for the mass market.

Will just keep my opinion to myself from now on looks like even the forum are overrun by mass market teens who think this game is not getting dumbed down.
If by "dumbed down" you mean that you actually get to see how the different modifiers influence the game, then yes, EUIV is the COD: Black Ops of grand strategy games. The peace settlement panel in EUIV pales in comparison to the sophistication in EUIII, where you only had to guess how you could make an enemy accept a deal. No more "why won't Leinster accept white peace?" threads in this forum, it appears. Oh well, I guess the teens who can't wait to get home from school to unite the HRE as Saxe-Lauenburg are too affluent and numerous for PI to neglect.

Not everything needs to be clunky and overly complicated in EU in order to make it a fun game - but to call EU IV a game for the mass market is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?
