OK so it started off one of those "Battle" missions. Just suppose to drop and destroy 4 mechs and then destroy some enemy reinforcements. BUT OH NO, heaven forbid anything goes to plan, EVER!!! So what happened? Well first I was dropping in a Centurion, had Dekker in a Spider, Behemoth in her Shadowhawk, and Glitch in the Vindicator. Turn two of the drop I have in front of the lance 3 enemy mediums and a light mech, and to our right we have 4 light mechs. With out ever firing a shot the mission loaded in the reinforcements, heck we didn't even have the main target on screen before reinforcements for the enemy where in the mission. So needless to say I bailed on that mission.
Several missions later get another "Battle" mission. Thinking well if I get lights and mediums I will give it a go, why? This time I had two Wolverines, Enforcer, and Vindicator. Why not? 4 Mediums should be able to take out two enemy lances if most are lights if they get a little luck. OH HELL NO! You know what showed up? 7 heavy mechs, you bet your bony blue ass I bailed again. Screw that employer I said dropping me into a death trap with 4 heavies in front and 3 on the right. Two of the enemy mechs being Orions, a Jager, a Catapult (which I did take out before bailing), and then the rest Dragons and/or Quickdraws (60 tonners no other info).
So what did I do, because I knew eventually I would have to stick one of those matches out. Well I will tell you. First I hunted for missions and trying to salvage heavy mechs ... which was so slow going I never got a heavy mech through salvage. Instead I came across a store selling Dragons. Thought to myself its better than nothing and at least has the hard points I could mix and match what I got. So I sold off 6 to 7 mechs and bought enough Dragon components to put together 4 of these monsters. Was that going to be enough to win, probably not I thought, so what should I do?
I came up with a bloody plan, that's what I did. So the next time I dropped in a "Battle" mission I dropped everyone in their Dragon. The mission dropped the lance in sets of two spread apart by one and one half sprint move. First I sprinted everyone to the right along a road, figured if I find the edge units I crush them fast and use the map line at my back to prevent the enemy getting around. By turn two though the enemy had 4 blips to our left, the main enemy force made up of a Jager, Quickdraw, Dragon, and Cicada. I first moved my farthest two mech farther right. Glitch and Behemoth came across another lance this one formed of three enemy mechs, the reinforcements, a Grasshopper, Wolverine, and Vindicator.
It was this moment I figured if my lance was going to make it to the right and have enough time to take out those mechs before the main enemy force was on them. Some one was going to need to be a speed bump. Since it was Dekker and myself I picked me. Dekker being the most fragile piece of mechwarrior crap in the universe wasn't going to last long enough to be considered a pot hole let alone a speed bump.
So what happened? I took my dragon and charged the closest enemy mech the Cicada. I swung at it twice and caved in its CT. By this point though my side torso was gone and I was opened on the CT. So I charged the next closest, the enemy Dragon. Got in one good swing opening up the side torso. This gave enough time for the other three to group up and take out the Vindicator, get in some rear armor shots on the Grasshopper and take off the side torso of the Wolverine.
Then it happened, the Jager mech ... blasted my CT apart so savagely I might of called it a war crime if I wasn't knocked out. Thankfully, I gave my lance enough time, eventually taking out the Grasshopper and Wolverine before the Quickdraw, Jager, and Dragon had arrived. Then it broke down into a series of 1 vs 1 melee. Behemoth vs the Quickdraw, Dekker on the Jager, and Glitch on the Dragon. With some luck Glitch finished the Dragon easy enough to help out Dekker with the Jager, by that point Dekker had one life point left no CT armor, missing a side torso and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if he was locked inside.
Eventually though the Quickdraw fell to Behemoth and then Dekker and Glitch finished off the Jager. getting me my first victory in a "Battle" mission where the reinforcements drop at the same damn time as the actual enemy force.
So words of advice. If you are out matched don't fight, run. When you think you should fight it out ... still run! Just faster than the enemy.

Also are the missions broken or are they suppose to screw up and drop the reinforcements at mission start?
