questions for event converting

1. What should I do with HOI 1 command "alignment", the one that moves it towards fascist, democratic or communist. How to represent that with HOI 2 commands?

2. Purchasing? Example is Greek purchasing of American battleships event where in TGW they gave supplies. Should they give half money half supplies now?

I'd use the 'set_domestic' command. :) A movement towards communism, for example, would involve altering the sliders towards the left, authoritarian, closed society and so on.

Yes, that will be fine. :)

I got that idea too, howewer I had doubts because in HOI 1 alignment move didn't affect domestic politics, but foreign affairs (at least I think so). You could have a leninist country which is totally moved towards fascism, which means their partners are Germany, Austrohungary...

When I was converting events, I also had moves towards communism indrease realations with the Soviet union, moves towards authoritarianism increase relations with Germany and Austria-Hungary and so on and so forth.

Well, when using the liberate nation button, the country gets the same slider settings as the liberating country. Dunno about events though.

Just a note regarding event conversions.

For the first edition of the mod (whenever that will be!) I would only like to include a limited number of important events that serve to help guide the game in a general way. I think this for two reasons:

Firstly, it ought to quicken when we can issue a first release of the modification by lowering the amount of work that needs to be done. And;

secondly, it would be much safer to introduce events to 1914 by a gradual process of conversion rather than adding them wholesale. It is almost inevitable that there will be bugs arising from errors in the event coding, and I expect this to be even more likely because of the considerable number of alterations that will have to be made to the original TGW code.

The 'major' event chains that I have in mind are:

- July Crisis (obviously)
- Ottoman war entry
- Italian war entry
- US war entry
- Russian Revolution

Agreed?

Yeah some basic peace treaty events would be good for making the end game worth playing all the way to say 1918~1919. We just state that with the versions (especially the first) that certain events have been simplified until later versions.

I am very reluctant to create new events for the purpose of a simplified version, such as with the peace treaties that you suggest. Preferably, the question of whether we shall include any peace events (and how they will be done) should be left until somewhat later. My personal opinion is that for the first version, there is little problem with allowing the warring powers to fight until some natural conclusion is reached.

Well I was thinking more along the lines of if any of the powers loose their own capital then peace is sought, but we can do as KM suggested also. Whatever works (one or the other, or both).

Regarding mobilisation events.

Are we to have:

- Reserve units to be written into each country's OOB, in certain provinces, but listed as dormant, to be activated upon the outbreak of war;

or

- Reserve units to be directly placed onto the map via events upon the outbreak of war (as with TGW).

Personally, I favour the former.

Final version?

But the final version will have all the events right? At least the ones you consider important enough? I am asking this because I invested a lot of time in finding events for the Latin American countries and I hope my work will not be in vain. :)

Yes. :)

However, for the first version, I only wish to include the most important ones, and gradually introduce the others to ensure that versions of the mod remain stable. Including all events wholesale would be likely to cause complications.

I like the former also. It also might be worthwhile to lock some colonial troops (especially in the British, French, and German Empires) in their respective places. The AI has a tendency to move troops it shouldn't to weird places. Besides those units should be represented on the map at start and not 'just' added at the start of the war.

[edit]

This might work for the Human player because they will have control over their 'grand' strategy. However we may consider an AI only event (not necessarily in our first release of course) that places a mass of troops depending on which way they decide to go (I believe we had an event like this in TGW); to go East against Russia first or do the Schleiffen Plan (I guess the same could be said for France's Plan XVII).
