For example
Your son was wounded while practicing real swords (without your knowledge)
- he is an idiot
- it's that new friend of his
- and HOW did he get a hold of a sword? (Blame the armory)
- etc

Your son has not returned from his recent hunt and was infact expected back several days ago!
- Organize a search party with my finest men, NOW!
- 100 gold pieces (not sure what the currency is) to the man who finds him!
- Both of the above
- I know that, err..I mean..look for him please.

Obviously there could be many more events, but those are the only examples I could think of off the top of my head.

I am aware that similar events were already in CK 1, I am simply hoping there will be significantly more events, and even events that depend on the location of your realm/family. For example in CK 1 after one play through I knew nearly all of the events, I would like to be surprised when something happens, and the only way for that to happen would be to have significantly more events.

Sounds like good material for an event mod like those that existed for CK1 (TASS, DVIP, etc.). For me, I became a world conquerer in CK, at least in my first games, because there was really nothing to do, even for a king. More intrigue, more fun, more relationship events. I would like to see regular seasonal events, like Christmas feasts, maybe something for the king's patron saint's day or the kingdom's patron saint... For instance, something beyond trying to make your father a saint. (Sometimes I wonder about those who gets that event.)

On the royal household, I was thinking as I was playing Medieval II that the idea implemented in that game of royals having retinues might make sense in CK2. Someone already brought up the idea of retinues in the sense of providing factions or personal retainers for each prestigious character, but I think that perhaps there should be events to add non-noble characters that would not be represented by actual characters but rather modifiers represented by icons like the personal flags in EU Rome (which were distinct from traits). I am offering a few examples, please let me know what you think. I don't even know if such things are able to be implemented, but it should add some color to court life. I wouldn't want this to get excessive, but I was thinking of things like:

-Troubadour/bard/jongleur troop: A traveling songsinger of some renown has arrived in your court. If you give him patronage, +prestige to you, + small relation bonus to people in your court (life at court was boring, you hired someone to perform regularly to liven things up a bit); of course he will be on his way, so it is a temporary gig, but maybe you or one of your children can learn the craft for a bonus trait (I'm thinking of William IX of Aquitaine here).

-Lover: goes for males or females, you are reputed to have a secret or not so secret affair with a commoner, maybe a member of the staff

-Physician: you keep a physician (likely of Jewish or Muslim origin) in your employ; could sour relations with the Papacy (historically, the Pope did not want non-Christians treating Christians), but you could also get events for people in your own court or your neighbors or relations to be cured of some malady (including blindness or fevers) by this physician

-Hermit/friar/Sufi mystic/gnostic/pagan wizard (a Merlin-type): you have close relations with an unorthodox religious specialist, maybe Christian, maybe not, who has been known to have gained more influence over your thinking or way of life than your bishop thinks healthy for your soul, or his career. Your other courtiers may be intrigued, think you bewitched, or be put off.

-Favorite servant or slave: You favor a non-noble in your personal matters, maybe someone you grew up with or one of the few people that you think you can trust with matters of discretion. Noble favorites should be fully characters, but you could promote your unequal friend to noble status by event, much to the scandal of the court...

This could add some interesting events to the game - what if your wife likes the troubadour you've invited to the court a bit too much for comfort, or if one of your advisors becomes a rival of one of your barons? If they arrived by event, it should avoid too much micromanagement.

Other ideas:

Templar/Hospitaller/Teutonic knight/Knight of Santiago advisor - improved relations with the relevant order, who or more likely to help you, Martial bonus, risk of offending your Marshal.

Inquisitor - ideal for dealing with those pesky heretics in the proper Church-approved fashion. Could also add a bonus to piety and a small bonus against spies and assassins.

Veteran sergeant - this character will drill your infantry, adding to their discipline and morale, though giving him prominence may offend army commanders.

Scholar - reduces the time for non-military research but may offend religious authorities.

It'd be nice to have your own personal retinue. Retainers/followers who you met in your travels and/or your youth and who you trust. The list shown above would be interesting. Retainers don't necessarely shift their loyalties to the succeeding monarch (except maybe if the succeeding monarch is a child, out of loyalty for the departed ruler).

Non-noble important NPCs, that's always interesting. Maybe have military schools in the end-game named after the great military minds of the earlier game, etc... something that shapes the world.

I see now that LordofSaxony made some similar proposals on a thread called "Retinue Members" last September. I discovered it when going through the older threads just now and wanted to give honor where honor is due. Interestingly, some of the contributors to this thread came up with similar ideas to what was expressed in that one. http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?497563-Retinue-Members I suppose that it is one of the features that people want if it is a recurring theme on this forum.

In that thread, LordofSaxony linked to the wikipedia article "Retinue," which gives an idea of the kind of events that having such non-playable non-noble courtiers could have, like a troubadour who arrives at your court could be a sleeper agent for your rival. I seem to remember that there is a third thread along the same lines, but maybe I do not remember correctly. For some of us at least, we want to be able to simulate what it was like to be a liege, and having all these hangers-on with hang-ups will help that goal--what Aracis has lately defined as the fun element.

I like the idea of someone arriving in your court whom could be an enemy....

For example the game "Knights of Honor" allows you to send any of your courtiers to an enemy land in which they will be placed in the enemies court, possibly allowing you to have the enemy marshall or spy master under your control.

Imagine your enemies surprise when the Spy Master he hired turns out to be an assassin from your court.

I liked the idea of having a physician in court... in CKI i grew tired of falling sick and waiting for the random firing event of healer to occur. I d love to have someone in my court and call him whenever i am sick. Now if the ruler is gravely ill and the physician cant help then we can have the rando fired healer event. Plus by having a physician present it would reduce the chances of wives miscarry or giving birth to stillborns...

I don't know about part about miscarriage or giving birth to stillborns, a midwife (or even midwives) was just as common and a physician wasn't a guarantee for less complications.

Maybe the presence of a physician in court would reduce slightly these chances or increase them perhaps if the doctor is a charlatan maybe act as a modifier in cases of illness, wounds or pregnancy. Historically in middle ages it was more propable that doctors could kill the patient with their (often) archaic practices rather than curing him.

IIRC those particular events are there to cut down on the sizes of the courts that tend to balloon out of control otherwise. Now that vassals can act as advisors there will be less need for random courtiers so it shouldn't be such an issue.
