doesn't this ound generic though? And thus uninteresting?
it is like those events in EU3, "the [blank] have infuriated the [blank]"
I would much prefer a historical event, or non-random event.
The border event is interesting because it is from triggers, I enjoyed the ahistorical non-random event triggers where your country's government changed if you met certain requirements. The election events were extremely interesting random events.
But random events popping up allowing me to declare war on people is not. It is crazy and having random events are pretty annoying. (In Victoria the random events were pretty marginal so I didn't mind).

Diplomacy should not be random opportunities. Diplomacy, man what was diplomacy in VICtoria 1? heh I dunno what diplomacy should be but not random.
I enjoy systematic, and trigger based better then random.

But these are systematic with an element of chance involved, just like IRL.

On a serious note, I think the border incident event has real potential, and would add a new dimension to diplomacy.

Isn't there an event very similar to this in eu3 httt already? I could've sworn I've seen such an event anyway (it gives a specific border friction casus belli rather than declare war immediately though) :)

If that's the case I'm guessing the probability for such an event in vicky 2 would be rather high ;)

Mhm. Tied to national focus location - if a foreign national focus is near your borders, you may get the Border Friction CB.

Victoria needs Casus Bellis. That's the answer to all of this.

CBs is going very well in HttT. Great addition for AI, in my opinion. And as far as King has told in last DD about diplomacy, I think Victoria will have a system even better. However I read they (the developers) were having some discussions about this 'events' issue last week.

I was just thinking, it would be nice to have some sort of ultimatum system implemented by events. It needn't be too complex though. Let say a Franz Ferdinand situation could play out like this

Political assassination -20 prestige for Serbia, +2 militancy for conservative & reactionary POPs in AH.

AH issues ultimatum: must be answered within one month. Game cannot continue until answered. Serbia's options:

1. Refuse and mobilise. 80% chance of DOW from Austria. + 25 prestige. Can convert 3 POPS to soldiers for free

2. Appeal for international help. 20% chance of a guarantee from one of the Great Powers. 10% chance you will become their satellite.

3. Agree. -50 prestige. +3 militancy in all Serb POPs. 10% chance of DWO from AH.

The main benefit of this would be that you would have a month to frantically try and gain alliances, beef up your military etc. This example is obviously derivative, but it could fire for any two bordering countries with bad relations.

+1

But we're still waiting to know more about gunboat diplomacy... maybe some mechanics in that feature could help to represent what you're looking for.

I would like to see reaction of the neighbour if you try to concentrate your armies on his border.

I've always though it would be great for any PI game for that to be implemented, but I can't really see how it could be.

HoI3 measures strength of army in provinces, so what about AI switch to garrison borders, when the border provinces show high strength concentration?
