Why would anyone choose option 1 over option 2?
Because after a few more of similar "options 2" you might get an event by which a large-scale conservative (or whichever right-winged demon) revolt would be inevitable?
Why would anyone choose option 1 over option 2?
Good idea, but that last Naval event should be part of a chain with [Germany] getting the chance to respond, either agree with your demands, or not.
I love this concept as it actually makes having bad relations with your neighbors meaningful and adds to the game.
For me this idea is more crucial than anything else, if you'll excuse the theatrics. I'll go so far as to divide V2 into 2 categories from this point: 1) V2 without these events; and 2) V2 with ...

:rofl::rofl::rofl:I can Imagine the look of the event for the PD team;
My [Chief Developer], Sir, the dastardly [Forumites] are suggesting that we [add player driven events] to [Victoria 2]!
1) Impossible! [gain 10 prestige, forum militancy +3]
2) A good idea! [50% chance forum lose 3 militancy, gain tech "player driven events"]
I'd go with option 2![]()
one for a recently reformed-economy democracy could be;
My [Prime Minister], [conservatives/liberals/Parliament] has not reacted well to our economic reforms!
1) force it through! [+1 militancy for Conservatives/liberals/both, economic policy set to "[lassie fair/free market/ state capitalism/etc.]]
2) make a compromise with the [ruling party]. [50% chance + 1 militancy for [opposition], -1 militancy for [ruling]. economic policy set to "[ruling party's choice as per party info]"
3) back down. [all parties -1 militancy, -10 prestige, economic policy set to "[current]"]
...It might also be cool if the event chain could (rarely) end up with a war. Just reading some articles about wars
and it seems many of them were started without a good reason. Of course, for the event chain to lead into a war,
the respond from the other nation would need to be very aggressive.
EDIT: Not sure though if this was the case in 19th century. Haven't read much about this time period yet.
Love the ideas. Mini events with options should be a focus of these type of games, otherwise you're following a predictable path thats been done . More the merrier. Make the game unpredictable as hell and have a better game.![]()
Besides political and social events I'd like to see some tech and natural events
for instance; Sire: mr.gatling has just patented a new type of revolving cannon- appropiate military boost, minus some monies for productio etc. OR
Flu outbreak= loss of population 1 % equals shortage in work force and thus increas leverage for working class.
