Hi there,

Drake and I are trying to edit a 1520 PE scenario so it can be played especially for MP. However we would like to handle Portugal's colonies by events, (Malacca => Jakarta, Al Kharam => Oman, Brazil CoT => Portugal and so on).

I'm trying to think if it is possible to edit the .eug file for the scenario to include such events, or if we will need to make a new scenario folder for it instead?

Can no one help me? I can't remember seeing it before, but everything else is changed in scenarios, so why not events? :)

This is what I suggest:
At the bottom of your scenario-file, add this row:
include = "scenarios\myscenarioevents.txt"
That's simply the file with all events... no old files are overwritten...
Or you could be bold and try just to add events at the bottom of the file... AFAIK, there's no real difference between the *.eug, *.inc and *.txt files, but if you want to keep it more clean and tidy (like if you have a lot of events), you should create an extra file...

I might try putting it at the end. If it works it would be good because there's not too many events that we'd want to put on, but it saves on having anything more than what you can download in vnet for example.

Ok I made an event where Portugal inherits Spain as a test, and while I couldn't add it to the end of the scenario file, I was able to make my own folder and from there it worked. Iberia looks nice forest-green. :)

However I do have one question. I have never noticed the line "style = #" just below the name and description of the event. I went into the .txt file where events are explained but there is nothing there.

It was meant to be used for the look of the events (like borders and decorations), where 0 was 15th Century, and so on to style = 3 for 19th Century, however AFAIK, it was never really implemented...

Despite many valiant attempts, I have been unable to find a way to sneak events directly into the .eug save file, unfortunately, making it impossible to add new events to the 1520 except as distributed as additional files that all players must install, which defies the whole purpose of an easily-distributed mod, that all can play in MP without needing to separately install. :(

Actually, wouldn't Kaigon's solution solve this problem. Add a new event file called PE1520Events to the end of the save file and distribute that text file with the savegame. You could even path it to the savegame folder making the player do nothing more than what is already necessary, i.e. extractign the zip file to the save folder. Since the file is unique for your scenario, it doesn't change anything in games where is it not used, and is otherwise dormant.

Ah, but Stonewall, Peter's dream is to have the scenario in one file so that it can be downloaded when a game is hosted. This would allow even the most computer illiterate player to play the scenario.

I suppose only Johan knows if there is some way to manage it because noone's figured out a way otherwise.

Yeah it's a bit of a shame really, because it would make the game quite a bit more interesting if it was able to be implemented. It's easy enough to add events (heh for some people at lest, mine are all buggy), but that requires all who use it install it, even subs, or vnet people if your game allows that.

Unfortunately not, as the others have expounded: My ideal MP scenario that can be used by even the most computer-illiterate (and believe me, those exist) is one that is transferred merely by hosting.

I have tried any number of tricks in order to slip events directly into the file. On the positive side, while that failed, it did teach me how to sneak a new AI directly into the file. (See e.g. the sick Chinese AI that I ship as part of the PAoE)

I was under the impression that only the host has to have the event file. I know from a random V-Net game one time that the host had modified his event files to give himself an advantage. We caught on very quickly, but the fact remained that he had modified event files. Will those trigger for everyone, or only the host?

Uhm.. PE 1520 is already made especially for mp... :confused:

Not yet. See his 1520 thread where I petitioned to have Holland playable from 1520. It has some decent support, so lobby for it. ;)
