The Popular Elections in Genoa
Alex_pharaoh said:Since there are 2 parties, there will be obviously 2 choices. And so, there will be 2 stones, one red and the other white. The white stone will represent the Guelphs, and the red stone will represent the Ghibelines. Each man or woman (OOC: men are the ones who normally have the property, so he is a citizen, while the property of the woman is normally the property of the man. However, unmaried or widow women have their own property, so they shall be citizens of Genoa and therefor they shall have the right to vote) who is a citizen of the Republic of Genoa will enter a small room, after waiting in a queue, called the Stanza di Elezione, or election room, take a stone from one of the two sacks which contain the different colored stones, and put in inside a large woden box called the Scheda Elettorale. To avoid people puting more then one stone, the Scheda Elettorale had an opening which when a stone was put inside the opening, a little bell would sound, and thus tere would be only one bell sounding. Of cource, the opening was only big enougth for one stone to enter, thus avoiding completely the possiblity of a simultanious doubble voting. After that, the permit for the election is marked as used by the official guards of the elections, who would put their choice at the end of the long day, and he goes home without the posibility to elect one more time.
So, when I went outside, I saw the people in a large advancing queue that ended in the door of the Stanza di Elezione. I then became proud of myself, for this is my doing, I managed to create a true Republic, representative of the people of the Republic of Genoa. and most important of all, that the nobles that made their choice would stand in the same queue as the common people, as citizens of the Republic of Genoa. This was an inmence breakthrough. And as Florence became the center of the artistic and cultural renaissance, Genova had become the center of the political Renaissance of the Republican values.
It actually happened… somehow certain Genovese pulled it through, so called popular elections. Many around the world did already despise these “republics” but this was an outrage! These election broke all rules that even Genoan cherished, giving the power from nobles and patricians to lowlifes, women and peasants. How will the classes that are in power to react to that?
TABLE:
1. Somehow the situation calms down, it lacks the spark to blow, besides all those lowlifes are so happy with their new privileges that supports doge with almost religious zeal. (no effect)
2. Many old senators, merchants and clergy voice their opinions aloud. However they do nothing to back their words... at least for now. (-1 Morale for half a year/2 turns)
3 Many old senators, merchants and clergy voice their opinions aloud. Some minor unrest in the “New“ Republic is quelled... at least for now. (-1 Morale for 4 turns)
4 Not only do nobles, merchants and clergy voice their displeasure aloud but openly oppose the new ideas by refusing to obey them. (-1 Morale and (-1 Tech for 1 year/4 turns)
5. Hell this is a damn bad idea! Genoan high classes are really
angered, moderate unrest. (minor rebellion triggered)
6. Rebellion! We’ll never agree to such madness and blasphemy! Never shall we be equal to Jews, lowlifes and… (women) (major rebellion event.)
ROLL:
Genoa: A 2 is rolled + 0 = 2
RESULT:
Genoa 2.
Many old senators, merchants and clergy voice their opinions aloud. However they do nothing to back their words... at least for now. (-1 Morale for half a year/2 turns)
