I was playing as Castille and I had Burgundy as a rival. Before I did much, an event popped up to say that I now owned all the provinces in Burgundy.

How did this came to be? sorry I don't have a screenshot of the event but I think it's a bit unfair to just click on a button and get free provinces.

I had Ironman mode on and the Common Sense and Art of War DLC.

Any suggestions as to why this happened? I wish i could replicate it.

Basicly when that event fires, france get all the french cultured non_HRE land. The rest goes in to a roulette between; Castile/Spain, Emperor of HRE and anyone in HRE who has a royal marriage.

As Castille you also get to click a button and PU Aragon (and Naples, if they're still under the same crown) when you have a king in one and a queen in the other. Kinda... weird to complain about the Burgundian Inheritance, when the formation of Spain forms such a big part of Castille's play.

Autonomy has no impact on the most absurdly horrible events in the game (except for that one for Orissa).

Also Vijayanagar with Tamil. What's this one for Orissa? The Wiki doesn't mention it.

Oh it does. It must added it recently, so not many people knows it. In my Saxony campaign I also "force" the burgundy event to fire and I got the dutch clay and state it. While Holland had an estate and zeeland not. When the dutch revolt fires, it fires on zeeland, after that I put an estate on all dutch and flemish culture. Never got another event from it.

Yes, that's if there's no Netherlands. Once the Netherlands exist, it'll fire even with autonomy. I probably should've been more clear, but those events fuel a primal rage in me that gets rid of all common sense.

The Dutch Revolts events should just get removed entirely. If they can't model something like the Netherlands within the game's rules, don't just spawn rebels in greater quantity than even the Ming army. I'd rather have no Netherlands tag at all than.. this.

That's what Separatism and general Unrest are for.

What if the country holding the provinces is Protestant?
What if Dutch is an accepted culture in the empire (you know, like with Charles before passing on to his son Philip)?

That eliminates two of the three main reasons of the revolts. And the third one (high taxation) just isn't modeled in the game very well except for the "Too High Taxes" event or something.

Just add those two requirements in the "None of" section of the revolt events, so a country being Protestant or accepting Dutch culture not getting them, and all's fine.

That's what Separatism and general Unrest are for.
If that's the case then Separatism needs to be MUCH MUCH more dynamic than it is. Effectively any unaccepted culture (so for simplicity's sake, RED cultures) would then need to first drift to 0...then after about a decade build up again as a renamed thing ("Aspiration of freedom" or something), so as to allow culture-converting as an option to remove the problem but also reflect that people rarely want to be ruled by someone of another culture, they want THEIR people in power. Someone who cares about their interests basically.

As for unrest, you're wrong. It's reflecting the people's desire to revolt versus their fear of doing so. Check the Manchu idea of "Pigtail or Death". This is not an event which historically or flavour-wise is in any way making people happy. It's literally a police-state-like decision which forces people to conform to their government OR DIE. It's a threat. Overcoming it means the revolters managed to get enough momentum that they just don't care anymore.

If your theory was the case then holding down low unrest would mean only ideas which appease and keep the people content would qualify for - unrest ideas...not death threats too.

As it is now, after about 20 years at most, Separatism hits 0 and that's the end. Suddenly everyone is fine just sitting around under the yoke of their oppressors. Not really what happened IRL.

Common people at all times wanted in general to live in peace and prosperitiy. As long as this is granted and they can keep their customs, they are ok with foreign rulers, not enthusiastic, but ok. The historical rebellions we saw (Netherlands, Catalunya, Ireland, Poland, Hungary) were always caused by government touching peoples customs (e.g. faith, Netherlands), high taxes or massive draft into army or a mix of these. That these things can cause rebellions even in longterm peaceful regions is actually modeled in the game by active missionaries, war exhaustion, war taxes, overextension and lowering autonomy giving extra unrest. In my opinion, the model isn't that bad or ahistoric.

The worst events happen when the Netherlands exist in your game, everything else is fairly managable for the player even if you don't take extra steps like moving your capital. This is of course assuming you control the area directly, I once had Burgundy PU subject and I must've killed over two million rebels (needed to have two 40k stacks on rebel-stomping duty).
