So, I was playing as England, as people tend to do, and was fighting France, again as people tend to do, and I was thinking.
I'm running 100% off of mercenaries. I'm winning battles left and right with them, and other countries would have to hear and be impressed at our mercenaries.
So I had an idea for an event.

[Country]'s Mercenary Armies

Throughout the past wars, our mercenaries have provided us with successful battles and sieges, and they have not gone unnoticed by nearby nations. They are either jealous, or afraid of our powerful mercenaries. Even other mercenaries are leaving their home nations to reside and fight in [Country]. Perhaps this trend can keep going, and we can exploit this, of course with sweet talking.

Options (balanced by IceTytanFang):
"Of course our mercenaries are the best in the world!"
-+10 Prestige
-+25% mercenary cost and maintenance ("Oh, we're the best mercenaries in the world? I think we deserve a pay raise then!")
-+25% mercenary morale (is that a thing, where only mercenaries get a morale bonus?)

"Don't you mean cannon-fodder?"
+25% mercenary cost and maintenance ("You're only using us as cannon-fodder? I think we deserve some more hazard pay then!")
+25% non-mercenary morale and combat ability ("Yay, we've got human shields to protect us!")

To get the event, you would have to of had 75% of battles won be won with mainly (+75%) mercenary armies over the span of two wars, and not already have the event triggered.

The modifiers would last until you loose a war.

Any thoughts on this idea? A triggered modifier that relates to successful mercenaries could be neat. Please critique the idea and point out anything that seems wrong or should be changed. :)

One thing I don't like is: Who in their right mind would chose the "Don't you mean cannon-fodder?" option?

I think it should be more balanced, like this:
"Of course our mercenaries are the best in the world!"
-+10 Prestige
-+25% mercenary cost and maintenance ("Oh, we're the best mercenaries in the world? I think we deserve a pay raise then!")
-+25% mercenary morale (is that a thing, where only mercenaries get a morale bonus?)

That works better. But it's the same with the "Commit sighted" event. Who picks anything but "Sacrifice a human heart to appease the comet!" :p

People not in the pagan religion group?

Anyway, looks to me like this event has very difficult triggers (many things modders can't do currently, so extra code would have to be written for it) to work nicely, and 2/5 of its effects similarly cannot be done in the current version afaik.

Not worth the effort, and +25% combat ability is just insane.

But think though, it could bring so many more flavor events not currently possible, that relate to battles.

Interesting, but unnecessary. So I'll have to pass.
Yes, but the Comet Sighted one is unnecessary, too. Maybe we should take it out.
Events in general that aren't historical.
