Well -- I have purchased EU2 and am having a merry blast as the Ottoman Turks, conquering everyone both near and far (Although the Venetians have proven to be especially intractible!!)

The problem that I have found? Well, I annex Constantinople and I get . . . Event 3750!!! That's what it is titled... and my three choices are:

3750A
3750B
3750C

Each choice has differing choices, but frankly, I wouldn't mind seeing the 'fluff' text that goes along with this event to let me know just what the heck it is all about. I figure it is related to the annexation of Constantinople, but from the lack of any relevant text in game, I wouldn't know just what!

Sigh. This got screwed up in the patch that became the gold version. It is such a cool event. Here is what it is about:

"Your excellency, with Constantinople in our hands, we must decide the fate of the Christian Patricarch. There are many Christians still in the city, it might be prudent to show some leniency. This time...

Choice A: Allow the Patriarchate to exist and keep the current Patriarch

Choice B: Allow the Patriarchate to exist, but appoint a new Patriarch

Choice C: Close down the Patriarchate and confiscate its properties"

Choice A is historical. The AI will choose it 85% of the time. Of course, you are the one playing the Ottomans...

You should probably take a gander through the patch fixes up at the top in the stick thread that Johan or Patric made, see if the fix is in there, if not, someone will take a look at it, I bet. I'd imagine they're fixing it though. Seems a big thing to overlook.

Yes we are! This problem is fixed and should be in the 1.01 patch.

As I recall,

Choice A - a very nice relationship increase with countries with Orthodox people, but a stability drop.

Choice B - a little relationship increase with the Orthodox countries.

Choice C - A drop in relations with Orthodox countries and a raise in stability.

Thankee. I didn't know that the Turks get the Patriarchate survive. I suppose it was overthrown in some not so distant future, because Muscowy appropiated it.

Well actually i think there is like 4 patriachates. Don´t make the mistake to equal a patriarch with the pope because the pope is wastly more influental than any mere patriarch. At least I think he was in those times. ;)

I think that is correct.. There were, and still are, a whole bunch of patriachs out there. I don't know if there was only at this time in history though...

To answer the questions:
- You can't set up a new patriarch if the one in Byz. is closed. It is just an event, not a game feature (like the HRE).
- To claim SDOTF you need a pile of money, and that noone else is SDOTF.

In fact, the Patriarchate still exists in Istanbul, even nowadays. When Mehmet II Fatih decided to keep it alive, he also conferred the privileges previously held by the Genuese and Venetians onto the Byzantine aristocracy. They would live around the Patriarchate on Phanar hill and thus be called Phanariotes. Nowadays, since the anti-Greek events in 1975, there is not much left of it, but the Patriarchate is still there...

Interesting bit of info, so it seems that at least something of the Byzantine Empire survived.

BTW, I love your nick ;)

There are 5 ancient patriarchates Constantinople, Jerusalem, Alexandria, Antoich and Rome, plus several modern ones, Moscow, Sofia, and Pec. I dont think I missed any.

All of them survive.

This was before the Schism. The bishop of Rome was a patriarch, although he had a specific title (Pope).
Pec? Maybe Budapest, in Hungary?
