One of my best friends from undergrad days went the IP route. Starting salary $180,000+. Of course, to earn that, he had to get a dual BS in physics and chemistry, an MS in chemistry, and a PhD in polymer chemistry.
My first job out of law school was in space and satellite law. Now that was a cool field.

No one ever said governing was easy. Believe me, I sympathize. I was told countless times that the economy sucked, it was all my fault, and I'm not doing a damn thing about it. You and I both know you've done a lot of work on it, but the lady's daughter *is* missing...therefore her job performance review is going to be less than lenient with you. How many parents would be hysterical by this point, and how many would go "Oh, well you talked to some hobos and have some leads? Oh, well then I'll just go do some cross-stitch then."

Hey, I haven't told him anything. Remember, though, in Vasquez's world, much like Philip Marlowe's world, he just knows the cops hate him. It's a given, inevitable, just like sunrise, beautiful but treacherous dames, and monosyllabic thugs with lead pipes lurking in alleyways.
Just wait until Doc Vok drops his next case on P.J. Vasquez....
