I'll be out of touch for a few days, I've left Barney "the Barfly" Gumble in charge of Brewtopia in my absence. I'm sure it will be in good hands.

Please don't do anything foolish, like restoring the monarchy, in my absence. :D

Okay this is a minor complaint

First of all,I don't want to diss anyone for doing a bad jab because that's not true. I admire all the people here, especially the game masters but I have a complaint nonetheless...

Why did you 'kill' me off? I mean I wanted some stuff to start happening and I was succesful and then twenty hours and BAM, assasination attempt. And what now? BORING once more.

Further, if this is a RPG than I guess the people are playing a bit too seriously here, that's why it might be a bit stale. I mean since everyone is acting seriously and when one guy starts becoming a military nut then everyone thinks he is REALLY serious, not just 'playing around with his character' or something.

Finally I would like someone to clarify the offensive stuff. I noticed that people who want to start leninist/trockyist/some loony lefite influenced party then that's fine. However if I want a fascist party appraising Mussolini then Mel will probably edit my post or something. This would okay if this was some sort of non RPG thing, but how can I play a nazi pig without all that?

Nobody killed you off. There was an assassination attempt on your life. I, I mean, the perpetrators, made sure that no game character would die. Far as I know your character is alive and well, maybe suffering from some form of paranoid delusion, but alive.

As far as being boring once more...well things happen slowly in Eutopia. I spent a lot of time on the whole Jools scandal, as did others, but sometimes RL events keep me from spending too much time on the 'puter. I think I did a fairly good job jumping on one casual statment your character made and turning it into a mountain.

I think this is what we need more of. Characters to pay attention to what's going on and then exaggerating things out of proportion.

I thought that a lot more effort would be put into the assassination attempt investigation, and I admit it died down faster than I thought....Maybe it's time to move on to something else?

Hajji Giray: Note for you press release concerning the Nationalist Party, I have choosen to use the character name Jacob Langley. So the party president in not Craig Ashley, it is Jacob Langley.

Thanks.

BTW, Langley's public invite to Jools should be newsworthy as well. Feel free to contact me for a quote from the always outragous Mr. Langley.

Well, you can still "make things happen." E.g., there is a new radio station (and party) whose founder, by all indications, would be happy to give you a platform for speaking to the public. :)
I mean since everyone is acting seriously and when one guy starts becoming a military nut then everyone thinks he is REALLY serious, not just 'playing around with his character' or something.
I can only speak for myself, obviously, but as far as I'm concerned, everything that's said in the forums and isn't clearly OOC is, by definition, purely IC. :)
Founding extreme/ist parties, either on the left or right, and utilizing RL events or figures are two different things. As regards the latter: as far as I know nobody has been praising Stalin (which would be the equivalent of praising Hitler or Mussolini). Regarding the former, Craig Ashley just founded a far-right party, and I have no intention of putting a stop to that. :)

Since this is an RPG, we're treading a fine line when it comes to deciding what's beyond the pale; quite frankly, the mods will have to make decisions on a case-by-case basis (at least that's my take ;)). However, two guidelines may help posters to keep edits to a minimum:

(1) This is an RPG, but as I said before, normal forum rules still apply. Does that impose limits on what's possible to say and do in-game? Yes. It is, for example, not possible to use Nazi terminology or symbols. Remember, this forum is still hosted by Paradox, and Paradox is liable for its content.

(2) As this is an RPG, discussions of non-Eutopian RL-politics should be avoided (they belong to OT). It may be helpful to apply that to RL-history as well, at least to some extent. I.e., if you avoid referencing non-Eutopian RL-history (e.g., Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini), there is a good chance you will avoid using a lot of material which would be considered offensive.

Just a quick rules question. Are non GameMasters allowed to create minor news events? I'd just like to make up some publicity stunts that the NP would pull to try and grab some headlines and get publicity. Nothing that would effect all of Eutopia.

Mel: I checked out your magizine and I must say it is one of the better media outlets in Eutopia. Would like to do a feature on Jacob Langley and the NP? Perhaps even an interview? PM me if your interested.

Celt: This is fun. Hope you enjoyed my attempts at muckraking.:D

I think it should be fine, but I'd suggest to send a pm to the GM Events (Blade!) and get his okay to make sure. :)

I would, and I was going to do it soon. I've just been a bit busy the last couple of days, so I haven't been able to publish a new issue yet. :)

An interview might be fun - I'll come up with some questions and pm them to you. :)

I have an approved minor news event that needs to be released in a credible news source (I don't think most people view The Voice of Truth as a reliable source of info). I have the story typed out but no where to place it. Can some owner of print media let me post in their publication?

OOC: Mel: Regarding election laws as we have discussed in the Libertarian HQ - First off I didn't want to highjack their HQ, so I moved the discussion here. I either have misread the rules or missed part of them. Since I did not see anything that prohibited smaller parties from forming coallitions in order to meet the membership requirement. Could you please point me in the direction of where such rules are posted so that I can be clear on them?

While I understand and agree with the membership requirememnts that are in place, I think this additional rule is a bit too restrictive. Politics are full of marriages of convience and it would be very interesting to see how two oddball parties like the NP and the LP would interact. Plus, it would make the ballot more interesting if their were more than 3 parties on it.

Also I must ask you for a bit of advice. What options do small groups have to gain influence other than selling their party endorsements? I saw you mention there were informal ways to get around things and that is what I am trying to do. It seems that my understanding of the rules was not complete. Anything that would point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Also would your magizine be interested in running an article for me? I need a legitamate news source and it would be interesting if your magazine got the scoop considering the content.

Good idea. :)

From the rules:

"In order to be able to run in elections, a party needs to have official standing [...]."
While I understand and agree with the membership requirememnts that are in place, I think this additional rule is a bit too restrictive.
Well, technically it's not so much an additional rule as the effect of a general one. :D ;)
Politics are full of marriages of convience and it would be very interesting to see how two oddball parties like the NP and the LP would interact.
They still can. For example, under existing laws, the NP and LP could formally merge into one party (say, a "National Libertarian Confederation") for registration purposes. The NLC would need to have all the usual trappings of a party (common HQ, common membership list, common leader/deputy), but the NP and LP could continue to exist as separate caucuses within the NLC (provided they are renamed to avoid confusion about their status), maintain separate websites, elect caucus leaders, etc. In other words, the NP and LP would, for all intents and purposes, continue as separate organizations, but would technically count as one party.
Plus, it would make the ballot more interesting if their were more than 3 parties on it.
No argument from me. :)

See above. :)

Generally speaking, the PI is interested in any and all guest columns. :) However, the editors may have problems accepting a submission from Mr. Langley, given his political views. Even so, the editors will consider any submission (in other words, feel free to pm me your article(s) :)).

Perhaps I wasn't clear or I misused some terminology, but this is exactly what I was proposing to the LP. In order to form a coalition to be placed on the ballot, wouldn't any two parties have to merge into one party? Perhaps my use of the term coalition muddied the waters. Sorry, but remember I'm still new to the game of Eutopian politics. Thanks for taking time to clear this up.

Regarding the article, I'll PM it to you, but it is not an editorial. Its a simple reporting of a minor news event that Content GameMaster Blade! has approved. He just instructed my not to use the official news thread and find a suitable publication.

Sorry for the confusion. :) No, an alliance between registered parties does not require that the parties involved merge into one - they submit a joint candidate list, but continue their separate existence. Basically, in Eutopian terminology

- alliance = separate (registered) parties submit joint candidate lists for election;
- merger = parties merge into one (or one party may join another one);
- coalition = several parties cooperate after the elections to form a government and/or parliamentary majority.

Okie. :)
