Melanchton: How's that possible that the LD only got 4 votes when there's 5 of us in the party and we all voted LD on the list.

Two of those had to be disregarded (one was not registered in the citizen registry, one was banned).

I didn't see Apebe for a few days. Is it possible that we need a new party leader?

Long answer to a short question to follow (sorry )...

Voting lasts one week, and since citizenship status can change during that time I basically had two options: (1) verify the citizenship status of each voter at the time they vote (in which case Apebe's vote would have been valid), or (2) determine eligibility to vote based on the status of the citizen registry at a given point. Option (1) isn't really feasible (the CRO would have to be on 24/7 to do it properly) and creates unnecessary workload, so I went with option (2).

Option (2) presents the problem *when* to fix the cut-off date; to my mind, there are basically three possibilities: determine eligibility based on the citizen registry (a) at the start of the elections (Apebe's vote would have been valid), (b) at some mid-point during the elections, or (c) at the end of the elections. Possibility (a) would have excluded new citizens (i.e., those who registered during the elections) and possibility (b) is simply arbitrary and potentially confusing, so I went with possibility (c).

Whether or not Apebe's ban is temporary, he was banned at the cut-off date - which means he wasn't able to engage in Eutopia in any way, shape or form at the time. In effect, a temporary ban equals suspension of citizenship. Since Apebe's citizenship was suspended, his vote was disregarded.

Well, Parliament has some time before having to appoint a new CRO (wich should probably happen a week or so after the Speaker election) - so maybe there will be a few volunteers by then. I wouldn't object to continuing as CRO, but that'll depend on the outcome of internal debates in the RD.

Does anyone have a copy of the old National Government thread that they could put up? It would seem that the one in 'Links R Us' is down, and I think particularly now that we have a government in formation, a lot of us who weren't around for EU1 could really use the education.

Example:

I, for one, have been noticing all these abbreviations for ministries, and haven't the foggiest idea what they stand for.

Explanations of the Ministry abbreviations can be found in the "Ministers" section of the Guide. The old government thread wouldn't help much with that particular issue, since the current four Ministries didn't exist in E1.

I meant I was a bit in the dark 'historically'. Figured that abandoned thread in Links R Us might have had some useful information. For instance, how were these ministries founded? How was the parliamentary composition decided upon?

Perhaps that's my political science anal-retentiveness rearing its head.
