I'M BAAAAAAAAAAACK!
Sorry about the absence again. It seems everytime I disappear for a bit, country goes crazy. The first time the CC left the governing coalition and took the approach of a hermit crab. The second time I was nearly removed from office and was impeached upon my return. The third time my party splinters for no apparent reason, and Jake Langley is left politically homeless.
Now that my time as the President is over, I'd like to comment a bit on the job.
It's hard work! The hardest thing about the Presidency is it is so hard to set an agenda. The President is constantly reacting to various events - most that had nothing to do with my pre-election set of goals. Add to it dealing with the cabinet and the NA, and the role can take on a work-like feel.
I think I'm better suited to play as a legislator, where I can pursue a more narrowly defined agenda and push it at times of my choosing - more or less.
That said, I enjoyed my time as the leader of Eutopia and got to administer through some of the more turblent times the nation faced. I think Langley was a fairly effective executive - the lack of a budget being the most glaring of deficiencies. I am saddened that I didn't get to further certain issues and other things have been left hanging - at least to my knowledge.
Now that I am back, I'm torn on what direction to take. I had planned on simply running on the NPP ticket and being a MoNA if possible, but that plan is moot as the MPP has been obliterated for no reason that I can detect. So I have two options that I am debating and I wouldn't mind some input from ya'll.
OPTION 1: Retire the Jake Langley character. I wouldn't kill him off or anything, as I have grown pretty fond of ole Jake and would like to keep him an option if this plan didn't work out like I hoped. My new character would definately be a fringe player. I'd probably go back to where I started on the fringe right - only this character would be more idealogically pure than Jake and would not move to the center under any circumstances.
I remember watching the various fringe parties have a lot of fun last term, but I think most of them missed out on some big opportunities by trying to overthrow the government and reaching a little too far. I know I could have some fun here, but my greatest concern is how sustainable is this type of character? Unless I could attract a small group of followers/allies, I'd have a hard time actually getting into government, even if my only goal there is to be a pain in the ass to the other parties.
OPTION 2: Keep Jake Langley around and try to move him into the role of ex-president/elder statesman/media power player/politcal commentator. I don't see a party that Langley would fit in right now, and I don't want to start another clone of the EPP at this time - there are already enough small parties scrambling for support.
This option would let me further develop the Eutopian Tribune, and I think media is something this game is lacking compared to a few terms ago. I miss the media wars, and even more than that, I miss the comprehensive and well thought out coverage of the Daily Balance and to a lesser extent, the Gazette. I could also appear in other media outlets, make speeches, speak before the NA if invited, advise the new administration or the opposition depending on where Langley's sympathies lie.
The only problem here is I know I would miss the political brawls of game. I would miss actually crafting legislation. I would miss the campaigns.
So your thoughts and suggestions are most appreciated on this subject. Thanks again.
EDIT: Was there ever a High Court Ruling on Langley vs. Glasser?
