What is so wrong with a EU president? This is what EU will be in, say 20 years. For what is a oranisation useful, when the organistation hasn't any power?

And it think it's more common on the Balkan and in Eastern Europe as English

I didin;t get that one. Do you think it is more common or as common? because it's neither one here...

I mean especially Bosnia or Serbia. We had a lot of Bosnian refugees here in Germany, who returned now home, so they can speak -at least a bit-. Or look at turkey. We have a group of 3 million turkish people here in Germany.

Can someone tell me what a Euro cent is called?

And is it true that the coins have different things on the back depending on where they were issued/minted? If so, what are the symbols?

It's called cent or EURO cent.

€ = EURO
c = cent

But that a problem for the people on an other planet called Europe.

Yes one of the sides of the coins will be different depending on nationality of the coin. But I do not know what will be on the side, since Sweden sadly enough it not joining the EMU yet.

Well that would be great to have a President elected by the people but that won't happen before a long time...because if it happened tomorrow, everybody would vote for the president coming from their own country (unless we adopt the same system as the Eurovision, in which it's impossible to vote for your country ) :D

And concerning the official languages there will always be many official languages (and I don't see any problem in having many official languages.I find it more democratic). There's no reason why we should choose one particular language, knowing the fact that the choice of one language to be the official language because it is the most spoken is stupid (otherwise Switzerland's only official language would be German).Swedish, Finnish, Danish, German, Dutch, French, Italian, English, Spanish, Greek and Portuguese are the official languages, and it's very good like that.

Head of state

Let us elect some member of the royal families as emperor for lifetime, without any political power and heredity right.

And that's better to not mess up with a official language, even if it is cheaper. A choice of a common language will split us again.

Nothing's wrong with a presidential institution itself. Personally, I don't see what use there is of one except maybe as a symbol of unity. I think there will be ministers/commisars (commisioners?), basically a man in charge of a certain function of the union like immigration, federal police, the joint military corps that are planned (i think Eurocorps?) ect.

I think that each country had the right to have 3 different symbols on the coins. One for the coins of 1€ and 2€, an other for the coins of 1c, 2c and 5c, and an other for the coins of 10c, 20c and 50c.

On the coins of 1€:
Finland has 2 birds flying, the Netherlands has the face of their queen, Germany has an eagle, Belgium has the face of their king, Ireland has a harp, France has a tree, Austria has Mozart, Italia has the drawing of a human made by de Vinci, Spain has the face of their king, I don't know how to decribe Portugal's 1€ coin, and I don't know what the greece and luxemburg's coins look like :)

My main problem with the EU is the lack of democracy. Of the three main institutions, Parliament has the least power. Until a new system is drawn up which enables people to feel that they have some voice and influence, the EU will continue to be unpopular in the UK. Personally I think a directly elected President of the Commission would be a great idea - what mandate does Prodi or any of the other Commissioners have.

Language: All that translations costs huge amounts of money. Think how much would it cost after new states will join. It's raising geometrically...
So there's no doubt something has to be done about language. And i still think that there are only two possibiilites, English or Latin.

btw, english is more popular in eastern europe. Especially among young generation.

About president. Be it president style-government, or prime-minister choosen by elected parlament, we need more direct democracy. Something where people would choose someone who will rule the EU.

I agree it was overtaking Russia in some of the Gymnasiums I visited in the Czech Republic (As much because they liked the Simpsons and X Files). I think that it's not an official language that is needed but a limit on official languages. Every document of the Parliament has to at present be translated into English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portugese, Greek, Swedish and Danish. That is impractical that's what needs cutting down on.

Out of the 2 world wars Germany started 2 of them. There is a reason why Germany isn't on the Security Council and why it doesn't have atomic weapons. As long as the Auschwitz death camp stands people wont trust the Germans.
