Hi all, I just got back to civilization after being away on a ski trip. Next session is tomorrow, Thursday the 31st of March at 18.00 CET (that's 19.00 "Finland time", or 17.00 GMT).

Seems Jakerson can't make it, I have arranged to have Cyril as a stand-in for Japan. Cyril has been briefed about the general situation, and I have taken the liberty to send him a save game file so he can have time to check out the Japanese situation.

All other players please report in, and bring your helmets as usual :)

Im on for tomorrow as well. Look forward to produce tons of more consumergoods.

Sounds fun, the Germans are currently making more usefull items than silk stockings and radios (hint: they have guns and armor).

Btw do you have a phone number or e-mail to Janster, and if so do you mind contacting him about our game? He wanted to join last time, but had some problems due to firewalls etc, and I'm sure he would like to play today but he doesn't have his ICQ turned on very often. If you could contact him it would be very nice.

EDIT:
Seems as all the 7 regular players will be playing today, except that Jakerson can't make it and will have Kyril as stand-in. It would be very nice to have an 8th player to play either co-op as UK or take one of the CW minors. I have asked all players I know, if anybody knows any good and reliable players please ask them if they would like to join us today.

I have talked with the Janster, but he is stuck behind a firewall from hell. The firewall is not under his controll, so he has no way of getting to play atm.

Ah, this is a real shame. Btw do you have any contact with either DagL or Glenn? Any idea if they have plans on starting MP HoI2?

I'd love to jump in, playing a minor or co-oping UK.

Ah, most excellent! Yes, we start at 18.00 CET, you are welcome to play any CW nation or co-op as the UK, which ever Juv (the UK player) prefers. We usually meet up in the "HOI" channel on V-net, and have a passworded game (I'll send you the password via ICQ).

The UK is losing on every front.

Mainland Greece fell as expected but the entire Greek army was successfully evacuated to Creete. unfortunately the idiotic AI killed the small Greek fleet by repeatedly sending it out to sea to be bombed to pieces. The unability to turn off the AI is very annoying, now as well as in HOI1!

Turkey was a lost cause from start. With no means of sending reinforcements the Turkish army was chanceless against the invaders.

A small UK expeditionary force made it's best to postpone the annexation of Sweden by landing in Gothenburg and temporarily liberating the city. But to no avail. The entire Swedish fleet was sunk by the German fleet thanks to the Canadian commander in the theatre. The BEF was then sent to Narvik in an attempt to stem the German advance in Norway but once again had to evacuate. All of Western Europe except the Netherlands is now in German hands.

Tobruk had to be evacuated by sea when some +40 axis divisions made a thrust towards Alexandria. The Desert force now holds El Alamein.

The Canadian army made a landing on the Sinai and almost annihilated von rundstedt and 5 German infantry divisions. If it wasn't for some extreme Axis naval manouvers they would be captured for sure! Total sea domination showed unable to prevent their evacuation.

Churchill was furious when reports of 3 carriers sunk in the port of Alexandria finally reached him to late to do anything about it. Although 12 squadrons of improved interceptors under able command tried to prevent this along with reinforced AA defences the Axis could pull this one off. The only good news is that 3 Italian naval squadrons were totally annihilated in the raids.

Germany once again secured the Suez channel, effectively blocking of the mediterranean, making Alexandria no more than a useless graveyard for shipping tonnage.

Large but inefficient allied forces were sent to Iraq to stem the Axis advance from Turkey but is retreating in disorder unable to stop the high quality German Panzer forces spearheading the advance. With the med closed and Iraq secured what will be the Axis next objective? Persia? India? With UK standing alone there will be nothing stopping them from going there. The only positive thing is that losses have been relatively light so far but so has the axis ones.

Some observations:

- Naval battles are too easy to retreat from and its possible to retreat "through" an enemy force. This has made it possible for the Italians to invade, evacuate and reinforce without problem into the middle east, making it impossible to stop this although superior at sea, inflicting NO losses. Meanwhile Axis air mercilessly bombs your naval units with no way of escaping. this would not have worked in 1.02 I believe since at least then naval battles will last a given period of time. Please don't compare an extraction from the French coast to this since UK has the means to win a naval battle there if she want's to and the Axis doesn't in this case.

-Whats wrong with the air cover system? Unescorted long range bombers vs nearby interceptors? The overstacking (+60 ships)of Alexandria's port is not the issue since the carriers would have been sunk wether alone or stacked. They should have better chances to survive while blended into the mass of ships in the port. Other classes should have been hit as well. This does not feel realistic at all.

- Italy sending it's entire fleet into the Indian ocean when UK controls the Western side of the channel!? Yeah right! It's a canal! You ought to have to control BOTH sides of the Canal to be able to pass through.

- the CW AI is doing ok. They don't mess too much with my orders and apart from some nuclear reserach and base/factory building acutally produce some useful units.

Finally I'm sorry for pausing and playing slowly but we went mostly Below Normal yesterday and the UK is rather complicated to play with the entire Axis attacking them on every front. Maybe the 1941 scenario is a better bet after all?

I agree, a naval battle should always last for a specific time before retreat is possible, I have no idea what fixes 1.2 entails but if this is one of them I for one will be glad.

Thing is we were using no less than 7 escort fighters and 2 regular fighters along with our 10 bombers and 1 nav bomber. When italy tried to attack without escorts or fighter help his planes got shot down in one hour in game time (all of them). So I think the air cover system works.

I was also using 8 interceptors doing air superiority missions.

About carriers being targeted first: Carriers are by far the easiest and best target for planes to hit. If you look at naval battles (mostly in the Pacific theathre), when airplanes were used they almost always targeted carriers if possible.

While I agree this may not be the best thing, I don't think this is going to be changed, it is much easier to live with it.

Glad you like the changes made.

As I said, it is not a problem for me, I know the UK is hell to play. I don't think the 1941 scenario is a good call, since I don't like it among other things, anyways for future reference we should at the very least have a french player from start who can later coop UK.

Fun session in all I thought, I can understand USA and USSR is starting to feel a bit bored, something is bound to happen soon.

Ok!

The amount of Axis fighters/escorts was a surprise to me and I guess that makes the issue more understandable and acceptable. After pondering the situation I have even come to feel that even though the loss of 3 carriers is a huge loss in time and IC the Axis losses need to be replaced as well costing them IC as well. and they need it more urgently to prepare for the Eastern campaign unless they plan to find Ivan in Berlin by 1943.

I have been a bit selfish while taking very heavy blows from the Axis but in a larger picture all that I can attrit; MP, IC and time, from the Eastern Campaign might actually be a salvation for the USSR. If large enough forces are committed to garrisons abroad and the Axis Middle East Campaign maybe even Berlin itself could be rushed? While being very focused on the Mediterranean campign it's easy to lose sight of the larger picture.

Also I wonder how Italy's TC is faring? I guess with the Med closed off that is a minor issue. How about German MP? The Brits are ready to bleed the Germans white if it will save mother Russia in the end.

British Morale is higher than it was during last session. Pondering ones situation while not under severe pressure helps to calm ones mind down...

I will be able to play tomorrow but I would appreciate a breal somewhere in the middle to prepare some grub. Also 6 hours of frenetic UK defences is enough to put your brain on fire so I suggest a 20 min break sometime during the evening.

OK, all 7 of the regulars have now announced that they are coming tonight, I have also contacted a few other players in the hopes that somebody will want to play UK co-op or a CW minor.

We meet at 18.00 CET as usual, in the HOI channel on V-net. Bring your helmet, and your shovel...
