Yes I know this is probably a stupid question but cna anyone help me find some information on Europe in 1850.
I've been asked to write a short play on the period and try as I might I can't find out what happenned.
It's somewhere between the Napoleanic wars and the Crimean war but aside from that I@m lost.

Since this seems to have the greatest collection of knowledgable historians can anyone help this clumsy soul?

The revolts of 1848 were in some places still going on, I think the habsburg empire was still putting down resistance from the magyars and other ethnic groups in their domain. The the revolts of 1848 are extremely important, because for the large part, conservatism won.

Hungarian Revolution (and Independence War) ended in 1849

Does it have to be exactly 1850, or do you have some leeway?

If you do then consider the Great Exhibition in London (1851) as the scene of your play. People from all over the world came to this exhibition, you would have the opportunity to illustrate many trends and countries in the same piece of work.

Good idea, and it doesn't have to be exactly 1850 plus or minus 10 years is fine.
Off to look up the exhibition and see what juicy secrets I can find.

Take your pick of a pat on the back, a big hug, a firm handshake, a cheerful wave or a heartfelt thank you.
Because you're the first to respond to my revised offer feel free to choose multiple prizes.

Well, 1850 was almost the end of the so Europe Concert of Great Powers, otherwise known as the Order of Vienna, which ended with the Crimean War.

You could get to study how Great Powers have managed the European and Oriental crisis all together, by cooperation in anarchy.

Hi,

In the 1850's, you can make something very interressant about the survivors of all the 1848's revolution forced to quit their home country to exile to the United States for example.

Refugees of the Hungarian independance war, of the german revolution, of the french revolution, survivors of the irish "Great Famine", of the diverses revolts in Italy and slavic countries...

1848 was called the "Printemps des Peuples", in every european country, a revolt or a great popular movement was crushed by conservationnist forces and often the survivors seek refuge in the USA.
