In one of my first games in 1.23 as Moravia the HRE also got dismanteled, without my doing. This was because of all the Religious Center.

I was leader of the Protestant League in the midst of the league war against Austria (which provinces were 99% rerformed) suddly Austria died without an HRE heir, and noone else was found, so the HRE was dismantled. This war still continued, and I even won and took Religious Supiority, which didn't had any effect. Didn't continue the save for long, after I got my Achievment, since it was to weird.

Most typical AI dismantle is after the league war fires. If the emperor becomes ineligible for any reason during that period, it will disband HRE since emperor is frozen for the duration of the war.

This does not explain a 1550 AI dismantle though. The only thing I can imagine is that the reformation was so strong it axed all the eligible options.
There was a league war. I think the protestants did win. I was not in it. I was fighting another long drawn out war. I might be off on the dates as I was not paying real close attention.
