Re Venice - what I don't understand, if she has had rubbish forts, why hasn't she asked for money from neutral sources to help build fortresses. I have not had a single PM in game from Venice about that. Just be careful you don't send a PM by accident to your enemies.

Venice and Portugal weren't really friends...

Well given the changed situation again in North america England has come to a decision. All Venetians lands in the Contient of North America we now consider to belong to us, and so will go to up most lengths to conquer them all. We shall not rest till they are part of the English Crown.

By the way, after returning from a trip, I have to say: quite a lot of posts :)

I am glad there was some consesus on the edits regarding Persia and even more happier that BtG stuck with Venice.

The current deal with Spain, is however quite...amazing.

The Sublime Porte states: all treaties made with Venice are now null and void

The recent actions of the Doge of Venice show that this man cannot be trusted, for his deeds are the deeds of an insidious moneytaker.

The Doge Has:
  • Sold the majority of his homelands to former blood enemies, and thus prefers money over anything else.
  • Failed to inform his allies of his actions.
  • And thus acted greedy, cowardly and dishonourable.

The Sultan considers treaties made in the past with this snake no longer as valid. If such a man can betray his allies, who fought years for his cause and even shared the same religion, he can betray the Ottoman Empire as well.
Who knows? He might already have signed deals behind the back of the Sultan, since he has done the same with the king of France, the king of Spain and the Archduke of Austria.

Therefore, the Sultan states:
  • All treaties made with Venice in the past are no longer valid
  • Crete, Cyprus and Rhodes belong to the Ottoman Empire

The Sultan also believes that the king of Spain should not make deals with such untrustworthy rulers.

No, its pretty much assured at this point. I tried to stick with Venice, I tried to make some sort of peace in which I could peacefully develop- instead I provoke a giant European gangbang. I resign as Doge of Venice, effective immediately.

Well, minor countries in the middle of Europe do not got the chance of peacefully develop unless they are part of an alliance. Otherwise, they will be attacked. Specially if the provinces they hold -as is the case of Venice- are always interesting for other countries.

Oh and which alliance would that be? The Hapsburgs? Doubtful at best, they're already huge and Vence would be nothing but a burden. The English alliance? They just declared War on Venice? The OE alliance? They just declared War on Vence. The French alliance? They just kicked Venice out.

The Habsburgs are the only remaining candidate. Who knows? Not every country in their alliance might stay member ;)

Right... and I was hoping that ceding Italy and having a past treaty with the OE would "eliminate" the desirable territory and give me peace. I see I was obviously mistaken.

You always got desirable territory. Your capitol is a COT. Venice need big friends, they are always too interesting to be alone.

The problem is you 'eliminated' the desirable territory by selling the Italian parts of it and trusting the other parts would be safe by a pact. A pact made by someone who just showed he cannot be trusted :)

And oh: desirable territory is not to be eliminated, it is to be protected.

Oh please, you must be joking. Any breakup of the Hapsburg alliance will take years. Venice dosent have years; heck it dosen't even have a year before every scrap of remaining territory it has is gobbled up by England and the OE. After that has taken place Austria will waltz in and annex Veneto, regardless of what anyone else has to say in the matter.

I didn't think that the move was "dishonest"; called it "newbieness" if you will but I thought France would understand. I certainly didn't think OE would cancel its treaty.
