Why give up as Venice? Its still a colonial power, and on par with Brandenburg in economy.

Maybe.

The most important thing Persia would need is good fortresses, otherwise the Ottomans or Russia could easily blitz them before Persia or anyone else could react.

Honestly I think playing Persia is suicide for anyone taking on the position, but with good fortresses and good diplomacy it just might be posible for them to survive.

I must admit that what I hate most about that scenario is that the remainder of Italy will be carved up by Austria and Spain in a heartbeat. :D

Perhaps, but the if I stay on as Venice it'll only take them an extra half heartbeat..... and once mainland Italy is lost Veneican income will (just a guess) be halfed. The ill tidings are only worsened when you realized the impact inflation (and the loss of two manufactories) will have on the remaining income; when you look at tech costs the situation is.... completely hopeless.

The persian culture rule will stay until I figure out or someone suggests a way to remove it that doesn't mean OE will blitz it in 5 years and take all the rich provinces leaving Mughals nothing.

If the OE can blitz it in 5 years, why was Persia made offlimits in the first place? This whole deal was about the OE concentrating on the west, eh?

I am sure the west can wait a mere 5 years :)

1. It couldn't be done that quickly prior to the current power of the OE.

2. There's nothing stopping you from continuing east once Persia is consumed.

Ok, my thoughts about the lot.

First of all: Venice is probably the worst off, but still playable. Don't forget that if Venice gets dropped, France loses an important ally and the fights for Italy will get truly ugly. England/Spain will grab the NA provinces and the Ottoman Empire the Venetian islands. In five years.

Secondly, I can somewhat agree with Btg that he thinks Venice isn't viable anymore as a nation, due to her badboy and inflation.
But still, if the French alliance beats the Habsburgs for good, Venice could reclaim a few provinces etc. I agree it's looking bad, but not that it is hopeless.

Anyway, he suggests to move to another country, which is all fine and good with me. But the problem is, he then wants that country to be beefed up enormously.
Why move from a non-viable country to another non-viable country, which you need to edit to greatness? You can as well edit Venice then (something for which I do not advocate).

I can agree with the thesis that a country run by the AI for some years needs to get a few cookies, but the current proposals for Persia are totally out of order.
First of all, the edits should be no means larger then what a human player could accomplish.
Secondly, AI Persia hasn't lost a single province to the Ottoman Empire since they were AI. If you are going to edit Persia cookies now, you are assuming the human player could develop his country in all peace, which is hardly the case.
If there would be a human player in Persia all the time, he would have to fight with the Ottoman Empire every decade at least.
I don't think Persia would still have all his provinces, let alone that he could tech a bit and build large fortresses.

Also, the Ottoman Empire hasn't build fortresses in the east, assuming Persia would stay offlimits.

So, all in all, I think if you are going to make Persia finally human again, I can only agree on two conditions:
  • The edits are mildly repairations what the AI has done
  • If Blk, for whatever reason, drops again, Persia will stay inlimits this time.

I think the Mughals are far more preferable now. They're in quite good shape. I could hardly beat them in SP :D and Spain had troubles with them enough in MP.

We also need a sub for Holland, since Rezag moves for a couple of weeks.

On a totally unrelated note, king Karl XI is still awaiting a response from the Czar that was promised to Queen Kristina, however, the Czar should know that Karl seems more influenced by the hawks in Sweden than his predecessors.

After the Russians ignored our request, it seems unlikely that the case can be settled peacefully.

...or is it that the hawks in both our countries are doing everything they can to get a war going? ;)

I don't think the Russians are that impressed by the so-called Swedish army.

I know I am, but obviously the russians aren't. :p

Only if Austria gets an inflation cut too, and every other country across the board :p - ie no chance mate for the same reasons FAL wouldn't want Persia boosted. Venice also hasn't even got the excuse of having been AI.

Hell I don't need a inflation cut, was only joking, since I found the suggested Persia edits quite funny. :)

EDIT: also I don't care what nation I sub :)
