Actually, I haven't seen any insults or personal attacks yet.

I have seen flawed reasoning and offensive posturing, but I have yet to see any insults. Except, of course, from the evil modiphant trampling around in the butter-carton, insinuating that this will get out of hand when this game is full of reasonable, level-headed people. :p

Red Herring and a gross misrepresentation- I survived quite late into the game, and I probably would have survived even longer had I not made a major diplomatic error, one that Hive, a seasoned player, repeated in the very next session.
But was hive eliminated? ;) He obviously survived, hence not all his neighbours where enemies. Still not the best option selling out to france, reminds me of TNG :D

Eh... this incident had NOTHING to do with what happened in TNG... I never crossed you, Spain, my ally - or France - when you decided to partition me in a very fair and sporty war...

Let me just say that if you are trying to claim Wyvern and Slargos are the most threcherous players one could possible meet in EU2MP you are very, VERY wrong, there is one measured to whom we all are like a little children in a kindergarten  . Not that it's bad, it certainly is interesting to play with him.
LOL - I can make a good guess who you're talking about .

I don't think Slargos is treacherous. Opportunistic perhaps though no more so than myself and many others, ruthless, most definately, and on occasion he perhaps lets that ruthlessness run away with him (as I've done too recently in another game). But then we all make mistakes .

I've yet to come across someone who takes issues over from one game to another in the EU2 community. I'm sure some do, hope I never run across them. Before getting into EU2 I played a lot of paper based and then email based PBM (Play by Mail) games in which the diplomacy could be pretty cut-throat - far more so than you see in an EU2 game btw! One quickly learnt in such an arena to forget past insults and betrayals as like EU2 it was a close knit community and at the end of the day just a game with nothing personal involved. Every now and then though you run across an individual you doesn't take it that way and then it becomes a little sad and can damage the game. All you can do is make sure you yourself don't go down that path and try and tread lightly around them. Personally I've been really impressed with BLK's attitude to the defeat of Venice. I still think you're something of a loose cannon ;) but certainly a player I'd be happy to have in an EU2 game.

One observation I've taken from both PBM games and Eu2 is that Europeans are far more ruthless as a group than people from the other side of the pond. I wonder why? :)

Naw, I would never do that; not over a friendly game at any point.

Slarg said:
Wrong. The act of attacking portugal put you squarely in my cross-hairs. That was what, 2nd session?

told you that I did *not* accept an attack on Portugal but you abused the military access given to you and attacked anyway. That *Austria* had given you leeway is irrelevant. You attacked *my* neighbour and should have asked *Spain* for permission.

The treaty of Venice has the signature of the Hapsburg Emperor upon it- who at the time was the "King of Spain", as is clearly stated on the treaty itself.

Signed,

Karl V.
Holy Roman Emperor of the German people,
Archduke of Austria, and King of Spain, Bohemia, the Lowlands and Hungary.

Even if Wyvern was speaking on your behalf, without your permission, the fact remains that you had ample time to inform me, since the war lasted a decade, that this action was an "alliance breaker" and that I should make peace with Portugal immediately if I wanted to stay in the alliance. Did you do that? No, you waited a decade then stated "make peace of with Portugal or Spain will declare war". When I made peace you attacked anyway and demanded a 3 province peace deal- certainly an odd action if your sole goal was to protect Portugal.

There have been several instances of harsh peaces against Venice and frankly, given your playing style, I feel very satisfied in making them.

Right, and I'm not complaining about them- I simply noting that you and Wyvern both impose harsh peaces when you can. For some odd reason, you refuse to acknowledge it even when evidence, in the form of your past actions, contradicts your objections of innocence.

The *only* reason you survived that long was that France and OE are played by guys who won't just let Venice be partitioned by Austria and Spain. Peter only abandoned you when you made a *gross* error in judgement.

Well thats always the story with Venice... if no one wants it around, its dead.

Blk, it's best to just chalk this game up to a learning experience and forget it. We all know Venice's predicament in any 1520 game and we all know how Slargos plays; he is not out for blood irrationally. Even so, the moral high ground wouldn't help you much, as a certain amount of deceit and less-than-honorable actions are apparent in ANY game. You'll be better adjusted next game and more prepared to engage in diplomacy.

In any case, some reminders:

ROBERTUS - Edit me my money.
SLARGOS - Edit me a Hindu tolerance slider, you lazy misbegotten son of a Lapp peasant!

Right. I was just using Venice as evidence to support my original statement. I wasn't attempting to "drege up" past wrongs; Venice, afterall, is dead and buried, and crying certainly won't bring it back. I do stand by my original statement, I do think Slarg is ruthless when he can get away with it- however maybe this is just a sign that I'm not ruthless enough as a player.....
