Demands from the Republic of Venice to the Habsburg Emperor
Since Spain has no intention to fight on (and can't for long anyway, as they are getting ass-whiped), We think that it is clear to all that Austria will eventually loose. Therefore, we think the Coalition (Portugal, France, England and Venice) can demand a peace on our terms.
Since the Doge is an honourable man, who fully understand the Austrian desire for a harbor, we offer the following:
-Istria and Lombardy is to be handed over to Venice
-Dalmatia is to stay in Austrian hands
This may seems unreasonable, since:
-Austria has no claims to Dalmatia, and will have trouble for some years controlling it
-Austria has valid claims to Istria
-Venice has no claims to Lombardy, which is a rich province
But the senate would like to point out, that Dalmatia is of little value to us without land connection, and we refuse to let Austria keep both provinces. And Lombardy is a fair gain, since the war was on Venetian soil and the entire Republic was looted and turned into a regular bloodbath. Therefore, Lombardy is a fair compensation for the destruction caused.
And on other notes, the Austrian Emperor is a liar. He did not wish for Austria to be an equal ally to Venice as France; he wanted Venice to abandon France, and join the Austrian alliance instead. This would probably have resulted in a grand attack on France, as Spain clearly wanted to take advantage of the internal troubles in France. This was a clear planned Spanish-Austrian aggression, and nothing the Austrians say will change the facts.
