So, if Spain accepts the peace proposition, as we think it will do, after we talked with it minister, it will be needed some months before actual peace is signed, so that we can retake ours colonies back.

Also, it would be advised, so that the english can get Tortuga that spain sends a small army to retake the provincie from french hands and then england can take it.

Also, as it seems that the Dutch Republic and France have agreed with the Noth American colonies question, we will capture those provincies before the five years (20 years to us) truce be signed with the Dutch.

Hum... so the spanish kings like to play games... That´s interesting. He must remember that games of chance are not being good by the church

The Dutch Democracy understand that the Honorable King of Portugal doesn`t want to sell his remaining colonies in Brazil, and does - of course - not want to bother him anymore by talking about it. Nevertheless, we have decided to present our full offer so that he - in any case - know what he is decilining:

Recife (63 ducats)
Alagos (27 ducats)
Pernambuc (72 ducats)
Diamentina (558 ducats)
Minas Gerais (18 ducats)
Salvador (36 ducats)
Itaimas (576 ducats)

In addition to this we are willing to give Portugal a sum of 100 ducats for their cooperation. This makes the whole deal worth 1450 ducats. We will pay 70 per cent of this imideately (1015 ducats) and the remaining 435 when we can afford it.

The king of Portugal is thinking to send some traders to the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. We are impressed with the eagerness and the enthusiams showed by the dutch colonial advisor, a fine sample of the true character of a businessmen.

But we afraid that the offer is not good enough. It is not enough to cover our investment in this lands, and we are not talking of loss of profit yet.

Well, the Dutch has made a FINAL PROPOSAL - we increase the sum by 20 per cent (excluding the bonus of 100 ducats.) This will make the deal worth 1720 ducats of which we will pay over 65 per cent (1120 ducats) of now, and the remaining 600 when we can afford it.

The Dutch believe that Portugal invested about 1350 ducats in these provinces (therby the last bid of 1450), and thinks that well over 350 ducats in compensation for lost income is fair. We also believe that the Portuguese has earned victory point on this colonization which they of course can keep. With the money we are paying Portugal, they can build other colonial cities in f.ex. Western Africa and Asia that will earn much more.

The amount spent by Portugal has been higher than 1400. We present to the dutch republic the following calculations, and they are lowest estimations possible
For any of the two provinces with cities:
Colonization efforts= 450
Public officials = 150
Defense expenses = 110

This is 1420 for the two provinces with cities and is the minimum amount. We had spent about 60 ducats in the traders sent to the TP in 3 provinces. So, it is about 1480 ducats in the lowest estimation possible.

And about profit lost, the two provinces with cities produce jointly about 40 annual ducats a year. In 10 years, that is 400 ducats. And we are not counting profits lost in the current undeveloped provinces.

And most importantly, 1788 ducats represents about 18 months of portuguese monthly income. With a cost of 1,5 inflation we could have that amount of money without losing any province. And clearly, Brazil is more valuable that Western Africa: tobacco and sugar are very valuable goods. In conclusion, we will not sell these provinces.

Netherlands has improved its offer for Portuguese Brazil

After the deal with Spain the Netherlands is able to pay 70 per cent (1400 ducats) of the sum we want to pay for the remaining Portuguese Brazil imideately.

We can therefore offer the following deal, which the Portuguese player will have to accept (if he should change his mind) within Friday at 12.00 GMT:

-The TPs in Recife, Pernambuc and Salvador are handed over to the Netherlands
-The colonial cities of Diamentina and Itaimas are handed over to the Netherlands
-The colonization rights in the mentioned provinces and Minas Gerais and Alagoas are given to the Netherlands
-Portugal receives 2000 ducats from the Democratic Republic of Netherlands, of which 1400 is paid imideately and 600 as soon as we can afford it.
-Portugal is granted military access through the Netherlands (if they want, of couse)
-Portugal may trade maps with the Netherlands, which will give both them and the Netherlands two new explosits
-Dutch traders may not be sent to the Portuguese Trade Centre of Tago, in order to not compete away the merchants representing the Honourable King of Portugal
-the Netherlands will not be able to declare Portugal war within 20 years
-Portugal may demand a Royal Marriage
-the Portoguese Kingdom may demand other services from the Netherlands in the future, since we - if this deal is completed - will look at them with very positive and friendly eyes

And finally: this is the last time we will bother you about this, unless something happens that may make us change the bid - something that make us available to pay more/less of the sum imideately, for example.

Announcement from the Republic of Venice

It is clear that Austria persists on her unreasonable politics towards her former ally Venice, and Venice's allies does not seem to support the Venetian peace proposal - as they have agreed a favourable peace with Spain, and just want to end the war. Therefore, Venice will make one last offer to Austria:

-Austria keeps Istria and Dalmatia
-Venice annexes Lombardia

If Austria rejects this offer, no more attempts will be made by Venice to reason with Austria - and Austria can just keep Istria and Dalmatia. But the Emperor should know this: He will have an eternal enemy in form of Venice. This is not a threat, but a mere conclusion.

As to the colonial issues discussed, Venice would like to remind all who signed the Threaty of Firenze that Spain has given Venice coloninal rights to California. It therefore seems somewhat questionable to Venice that Spain wants to buy San Bernadino from the Dutch. Venice lost ½ of our colonial possesions in the war (which is 1!) to Spain due to the ToT, and we do not think that it is completely unfair if we too are given a chance to build up a colonial empire.

About the Threaty of Firenze: how come it is discussed that all who has signed this threaty also must respect the territories promised to the Netherlands when, at the same time, the Netherlands refuse to sign this threaty?

The Republic of Venice refuses to sign anything that puts us in a worse position than we were in before.

France do not recognize any changes to the Treaty of Firenze and will not sign any new adendum to the Treaty as it stand now.

The agreements that ocurred were bilateral issues, not concerning to us.

We, not for one instant, considered that the dutch had rightfull claims to ours lands. We only indenizated them for the money they invested in those lands.

We , not for one instant, recognized the Treaty of Tordesillas, so any agreement made with base in that so called treaty will only be recognized, as my wise grandfather said, when you show me the clause in the testament of Adam that divided the world betwen Spain and Portugal.

We never received as gift or as tip any land from Spain, we made a treaty recognizing frontiers. We stand by that treaty.

Portugal understands that every single deal done with the Netherlands was a bilateral one, and under the Treaty of Firenze (since every power can transfer the rights recognized in this treaty). If we need to sign a new treaty, so be it; but none of the deals done need to change the treaty.

Portugal also understands that the Republic of Venice is right in that under the Treaty of Firenze all californian lands are lawful claims of Venice. And so, any Spanish-Netherlands deal regargind this lands is void for the powers that signed the treaty.

The Republic has decided to let her allies sign the peaces with Spain they want, in order to secure peace in Europe. So as far as we are concerned, this war is over.

Habsbourgs sign peace

We are amused to see that a Doge, who almost lost his republic, still continues to have claims over Austria...
Venice has signed already a peace with the Habsbourgs, so the Doge should really take care of the reconstruction of his republic and let the other powers who are still at war to agree the peace terms. The announcement of threats against us will only serve to keep an unsafe atmosphere in the city of Veneto. If the Doge wishes to renounce to the province of Dalmatia, this is his problem.

Our ambassador has acknowledged the portuguese proposition of peace. The Emperor solenelly states that:
