Sorry to interrupt the show, but I who I backstabbed and when is up for dispute (namely by me), but I don't think you could construe, even with the broadest of definitions, that I had backstabbed anyone other than France, Prussia, and possible the United States.

But that's beside the point.

Eber, in games such as this, tempers get hot and things can look pretty bad. I won't lie. When I Lamprey post comments like that, it *does* make me upset, but I shrug it off because I know it's not meant that way. Especially in a sttuation such as this, words sometimes don't carry with them the inherent sarcasm or comedy, and we can easily impose on them the aggression or malevolence we *expect* to see.

Let Lamprey be in his comments. If I can handle it, then so can you. :)

On-topic: I've announced on more than one occasion that Russia will maintain neutrality in European affairs. I'll be quite honest and say that I have considered making a move somewhere, but to be quite frank about it, the benefits (if I did manage to win), are nowhere near worth the risks.

Prussia has an understandable paranoia regarding Russia. I respect Lamprey's caution, even if it may be a bit overzealous, but I will repeat that I will not participate in any European wars. When others obilize, I will mobilize for my own protection (this was seen last session when I mobilized briefly when the USA did), but I won't declare war on anyone and I won't join in any wars.

Consider Russia to be out of the picture.

As long as there's a unified front against me, there is literally nothing I can do. Raph created an alliance for the ages, and as its de facto leader, he can prety much do as he pleases for the moment, as can the rest of the allies. Those unfortunate enough to remain out of the loop (France and Russia) can do little to nothing to counter them.

To be quite honest, whereas I'm still highly ranked in terms of the great powers, the war left me with a weak and (at least tremporarily) crippled economy. The game has, at this point, pretty much passed me by. I don't doubt that second or third place are out of reach--not at all, in fact--but given the history of this game, I think I'm pretty much assured to be out of the number one spot.

People don't trust me. So be it. They probably think I'm lying right now. That's actually a good thing, as it lets them cover all their bases. It's the same reason I mobilize when anyone else does--friend or foe.

I only hope that there is at least some way I can become a 'good guy' again. I mean, even when I do nothing at all, I'm still the renegade of Europe. Oh well. What I really hope is that the game stays fun. I'm still enjoying myself, and as long as we can stay clear that this is a game, and that there will be other games, then there's no problem.

I see your point Memnon. Since I do not know everything that is going on inside the game, I'll trust Lamprey's and your judgement.

Also Lamprey, I apologize again for this little debacle and have edited my post as well after I saw you did the same thing.

Good day.

Seems like I missed some {furious?} conversations...

Well I will post some facts about the OE now, to tell all people here whats my position...

1) The OE was the last session busy building up a large economy, and has builded lots and lots of RRs...
2) The OE will continue to industrialise next sessions and thats our main priority at the moment...
3) The OE is trying to stay out of player-player wars and thats why we didnt prolongue many of our alliances...
4) The OE has no Casus Belli against anyone at the moment, so we might be peaceful next session... (can you imagine, a peaceful strategist ;) )
5) The OE is however increasing its army to make sure it will not stay unarmed in case of a war...
6) The OE is aiming to become at least #5th next session...
7) The OE will get a lot of prestige next session from colonisation...
8) The OE is unlikely to join another worldwide caolition again in the future...
9) The OE will keep an eye on each of its neighbours...
10) The OE.......... :D

Guys, take a deep breath. Move to seperate corners. You know the rules... no hitting below the belt, no gouging, and no name-calling... unless they're French :D

Keep in mind that this is a forum about a game, and this particular thread is to entertain and inform about a particular MP game.

Players: if someone not in the game makes some comments that irritate, you can comfort yourself with the fact that they're wanna-be's that have no idea of the "big picture" of your game.

Wanna-be's (myself included): If you see something in this thread that begs for a "you're an idiot" comment... see above.

And over all, remember: "Common sense..... isn't"
Sorry guys, but why are you so bloody touchy?

Well, i am simple guy so i would take this explanation, if not two things:

1) It doesn't make sense. Why would one want to be perceived as touchy? So people would not want to be harsh for him and wouldn't declare war? Because i can't see any other reason, and this one is rather stinky.

2) I've seen people gone crazy in EU 2 MP, i doubt Victoria is that much different.

Hey fellas, i know this isnt the best place to post this but time is dire. I have a huge hurricane heading for Tampa where i currently reside! I am worried about a power outage and me not being able to sub for Raph, who would suffer from the AI handeling his nation. The hurricane hit tommorow and i think things will be fine but if the storm get worse by then, and it devastates a large part of the coastal cities i could possibly be without power.

Like i said in all probability things will be fine for me power wise, i just want to approach the situation with caution since its Raph who could suffer the most in this situation.

Possible to get somebody on standby b4 game if i dont show due to a extended power outage?

Contact me via email/pm/ or the game IRC channel.

Thanks and carry on.

You're going to let a little thing like a hurricane stop you? Bah! Hire someone to pedal a bike hooked up to a battery for a couple of hours. These are not problems, they're opportunities!

J/K

Hope you make it through the hurricane ok. Let's start looking for a sub to the sub (sub squared?) asap. Someone interested, post here. Surely there is one person out of the nearly 20,000 who've viewed this page willing to jump in with us :)

We are a peaceful bunch, we respect the sovereign rights of all our neighbors and never attack a new person just to take advantage of their unfamiliarity. Honest.

Looks like I missed part of the fireworks. I read some before posts were edited, just no time to respond... Glad it's sorting out.

ibalkid: solution is simple, you just need to last 2-3 hours until DR can show up or atlan can sub for you so to speak. Easiest way to last through a storm (unless your phone/cable lines are out is the following).

Go to your local friendly computer store and buy a decent UPS, cost around $100 or so. See if you can open it up easily. Now, next thing to do is go to costco and buy some of those deep marine batteries, buy a few of them. Open up your UPS, rewire/soldier those deep marine batteries to your UPS. If you wish, you can even put the whole contraption next to your main switch, where power comes into your home. This way, you get UPS for your entire house and it charges when power's around. I'm not kidding you, some people did it, that's how I learn it. I once asked my friend why he is buying those used big 5000VA UPS when the cable is so big, ugly, and does he have a need for those. That's when I learn how to take advantage of the fact big VA UPS batteries are almost like car batteries. You just need to redo the batteries yourself. My friend is an admin and in order to save cost (those big UPS batteries for their server cost a fortune to replace), they experimented with car batteries and it worked. After that, next step was to wire up the house with it and since then, there is no power problem in their home. It's great to play lan game there, storm or not, rain or shine, blackout or not, house is powered up, ready to serve, as long as our systems don't drain those poor deep marine cycles batteries too fast :D

Interlude: London, Nov 22nd 1869

It is a cold and foggy day, as is usual in London this time of year. A carriage drives up to the entrance of Buckingham Palace and stops momentarily, letting a small figure step out before driving on. The figure steps over to the entrance and disappears inside. Waiting inside is one of the queen's adjutants.

Ah, welcome, Prime Minister. Her Majesty is waiting for you in her study.

Following the adjutant up the stairs and onwards, Rafiki checks his folder that he hasn't lost any of the maps or overviews he has brought along. Finally they stop outside a large oak door and the adjutant knocks. Stepping inside, the adjutant introduces the guest and then disappears out one of the side doors.

So good to see you, Rafiki. The tea will be here momentarily, so you can get that chill you must have in your body chased away. What news do you have for me?

Your Majesty, I thought it pertinent to give you an update on the situation we are currently facing so that we may discuss what might be the best approach to it for us. To start it off, I have prepared a map showing the current political situation in the world to the best of our knowledge:

EA_1859-11-22_small.jpg

I have also brought along a larger version of the map, Your Majesty, if you'd like to study it closer.

At that point, a servant comes in with a tray containing tea and some fruit and biscuits. He pours tea into two cups before exiting through the door he enetered.

As you can see, there have been some changes over the course of the last years. Africa is now essentially divided between Spain, the Ottomans and ourselves, with the French and some small nations covering the rest. The Austrians retain their control over Italy, even in spite of the rebellions they have been facing there. The various nations that declared their independance from Russia during the last war are still formally independant, but we suspect that Russian influence over them is still strong.

For our own part, we have been started enforcing Pax Britannica throughout India after the recent troubles we saw there. Of particular note are the frequent rebellions we experience among the Bengali, but we have troops in place that are in control of the situation, and we expect that the locals will grow tired of futile displays of insubordination soon.

One good thing in it all, is that peace reigns throughout the world. Apart from a few small rebellions in various places, there are no major conflicts among sovereign nations, which to, my knowledge, has been a rarity so far in my time as Prime Minister.

Rafiki rolls the map together, and takes out some charts from his folder.

Here you can see a rough comparison of the armnies of the world:

EA_1859_nov_22_armies.jpg

Please do not get the wrong impression from this overview. First of all, it does not include any non-mobilized troops. As you know, our own reserves in that area are quite limited. It also does not show that we have been forced to raise the majority of our troops in the colonies, especially compared to many of the other great powers. Do not misunderstand me; they are fine troops and I would not want to meet them on the battlefield, but they have certain shortcomings when it comes to training and equipment that we quite would've preferred they didn't have. Little we can do about that, I'm afraid, hence the increased number of division we have raised.

But here is a more pleasant report, Your Majesty

Rafiki cannot help but smile a little as he brings out the next sheet he has brought along.

EA_1859_nov_22_navies.jpg

As you can see, Britannia does indeed rule the waves, and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Even our biggest maritime rival, our long.time ally USA, is nowhere near matching our strength at sea.

It is, however difficult to predict what will happen in the years to come, and our scientists and military analysts are working on developing new technology and disciplines as we speak.

I have also brought along this general overview of the nations of the world:

EA_1859_nov_22_nations.jpg

Again, these population figures are slightly misleading, since they incorporate colonies and dependencies. This bloats the numbers representing ourselves, and to a lesser degree Spain and perhaps even the Ottomans and Russians. This has a significant impact on the various nations' potential for industrialization, which I am sad to say has already been mostly fulfilled for Great Britain. Already, scores of our factories have been forced to close or are run by skeleton staffs only. I must admit, your majesty, that this is perhaps what worries me the most for the future.

However, the other figures are encouraging; more and more of our citizens are being educated, our empire is vast, our military leaders are numerous (allthough not always as competent as could be), our training camps are delivering new troops in sufficient numbers and our industry exports are still among the world's largest.

Having covered most of his initial briefing, the two sit down to enjoy some more tea before they continue disscussing what Great Britain needs to do to face the times ahead...

______________________________
Hopefully this should give people outside the game an impression of the status in the game before tomorrow's session.

:) Rafiki

Phew! Just caught up the last two and a half weeks- or about 400 posts.

Is such a huge Royal Navy strictly necessary? I mean, you could at least pay off the wooden ships to keep your maintenance down. You would still possess a more than 8-1 superiority in modern vessels over the US.

Nice to see Russia going from crippling defeat to new expansion in the blink of an eye. You can't keep Memnon down.

Spain does seem to be doing well for herself- with 12 million or so new citizens since the last set of screenshots and quite a big stretch of yellow in Africa.

Definitely want in on an MP game when I get the chance, now.

Having a large, uncontested navy gives me....options ;)

I am disbanding ships, but as long as the other nations have nothing better the MWs, my wooden ships are still useful for screening and blockading.

:D Thats exactly what i did!

Seriously tho, as the hurricaine approached my coast line it suddenly made a dramatic turn towards the inland and annihilated some coastal town and barrier islands just south of here. Isnt that GREAT news! I can play tommorow!

Seriously tho just alot of property damage south of here. It was a big hurricaine with winds up to 150 mph. Well see just how much damage was done when the dust settles.

See you all in Mirc!

Man. Another decade, another world war. This will never end!

The war began in 1874 and is still going on, to be concluded next time. It is by no means decided. Heck, it's looking like the good guys might actually have to face defeat this time.

This one is a *little* smaller in scale. It was started by the Ottoman Empire allied with Russia and France against Spain and Austria. Germany (which has formed in 1871) naturally protected its allies, as did the USA. The USA was not a factor this time as it was run by the AI, but next time it will hopefully be much more help.

Another unique quality of this war is that there is a series of agreements between the warring sides: there is to be no fighting along the RUS-AUS and RUS-GER border, no fighting along the GER-FRA border and along FRA-AUS border. It effecively focuses the war to two distinct theatres of operations: One in Spain, the other in the Ottoman Empire.

In Spain Spanish army desperately tries to hold the line against over 100 Russian divisions in addition to the French, with the aid of a small 20 division German expeditionary force. Lacking control of the seas it is difficult to send more in, and things are not looking good. The Russians have already broken into Spanish soil and are barely contained by 50 or so German/Spanish divisions frantically digging in into the mountains around them.

The situation on the Ottoman front looks much better. This is where the bulk of German reinforcements have gone; only 60 so far, but the war is young. Combined with Austrian forces, that's a very capable army. To add to the good news. the bulk of the Ottoman divisions recruited for this war - which is, from the sultan's reports, anywhere from 100 to 200 - are of native quality, which makes them quite ineffective against German and Austrian regulars. Russians haven't been spotted here yet and the Germans also have numerical superiority on this front, at least for the moment.

The European diplomatic situation:

Damn, I thought Rafiki said I was neutral. Oh well, hopefully the AI hasn't sunk all my transports.

If any readers are wondering, I missed this session because I couldn't connect to the game for some reason. Personally, I blame black magic practiced by the Tsar of Evi- Russia.

Disclaimer: This is a joke! Not meant to antagonize anyone. I'll erase this post if requested. JUst thought this was funny :p

Germany's art critics have come into posession of the most recent portrait of the Tsar, in full regalia. A reproduction is shown below, as the original hangs in the halls of St. Petersburg:
